A BEACON FOR BIOLOGICAL RECYCLING OF MOBILE DEVICES

02-12-2018 09:20 AM CET | Media & Telecommunications

Press release from: Herr

/ PR Agency: BABYLONOKIA

The Babylonokia-Art-Project will be a beacon for the biological recycling of mobile devices at the Mobile World Congress in late February 2018 in Barcelona.

As studies have shown, willow trees (Salix spp.) are excellent candidates for phytoremediation due to their large biomass, high metal tolerance and accumulation capacity.

In particular, the Babylonian willow (Salix babylonica crisp) has proved to be a particularly efficient phytoextraction plant and is therefore used in this project.

In combination with Ideonella sakaiensis, a plastic-eating bacterium, mobile devices can be completely biodegraded.
Investors looking to develop a commercial use of this project can contact the initiator directly.

Karl Weingärtner has gained worldwide attention with his artwork Babylonokia in 2012. The object in the shape of a clay tablet represents a mobile phone with cuneiform characters on the keys and the screen. Weingärtner wants to draw attention with the work on the development and the problem, as well as the effects of the modern information dissemination.
