LORENTZ in Kwang Yang: A foot in the door of the Asian market

LORENTZ in Kwang Yang: A foot in the door of the Asian market

In Kwang Yang a 100 kWp solar park has been connected to the grid

LORENTZ newest park is located in the South of South Korea (ca. 35° N). It con-sists of 44 ETATRACK active 1500 track-ing units, each equipped with twelve Sanyo 190Wp HIP solar modules. The total size of the park is 100kWp.

ETATRACK active 1500 with its ex-tremely robust design and medium-sized module surface is especially suitable for the region, characterised by strong winds with frequent typhoons. The mounting can withstand wind speeds of up to 200 km/h without wind sensor. For higher wind speeds, the trackers can be orientated to an optimum position to fur-ther reduce the load.

Optimum tracking is ensured by LORENTZ central control system. The system calculates tracking movements on the basis of the geographical position of the solar park. This concept avoids failure prone light sensors. The software also includes the landscape situation and avoids shadowing of the solar mod-ules during morning or evening hours. With the remote access via modem or GSM telecommunication the tracking units can be monitored and, if neces-sary, tracking movements optimised easily.

LORENTZ central control system can operate up to several thousand tracking units, for solar park sizes of several MWp. Each tracker can be operated in-dividually.

The operation of the trackers and the controllers is highly energy efficient. With only 1.25kWh/year energy con-sumption per tracker, or 0.05% of the total annual output of the solar park, it is negligible.

Xue Guang, Korea sales manager of LORENTZ (China subsidiary), says, »The math is pretty simply. With just 8% higher investment cost compared to a fixed-mount solar park, our tracking concept provides our customers with an extra 35% energy output. With this pilot solar park in South Korea we have put our foot into the door of the Asian mar-ket. We are certain that many more and also considerably larger parks are to fol-low in Asia. We have already seen this development in Europe.«

Not afraid of the winter with LORENTZ tracking systems
Since the recent enormous snow falls in Bavaria this February many operators of solar installations wonder how much weight the mounting of their modules can safely endure. Extreme weather conditions like these might be occur more often in the near future. Snow weights of up to 250 kg/m2 are a severe test for solar tracking systems in particular. A sensor-guided solar tracker might drive into horizontal "sleeping" position when its sensor
