House in Sevenoaks still lit by gas goes under the hammer

Press release from: Ibbett Moseley

/ PR Agency: Blueberry PR
What is thought to be one of the last remaining houses in the country without electricity and still lit by gas is being auctioned on behalf of charities Cancer Research UK and the British Heart Foundation.

For Ibbett Mosely’s staff who visited the semi-detached property in Hillingdon Avenue, Sevenoaks, for valuation purposes it was like going back in time as little had changed since the 1920s.

Senior Partner for Ibbett Mosely Dr Robert Wickham said: “We visit thousands of houses every year and haven’t come across gas lighting for decades and it’s incredible that the former owner was living in the house with no electricity in this day and age. It was particularly surprising to find a completely unmodernised house in central Sevenoaks.

“We are determined to achieve the best possible price for the charities concerned. It is a wonderful opportunity for a first time purchaser or a keen DIY enthusiast to buy at a modest figure and enjoy the improvement that will be achieved. Rarely does one find such an opportunity within the southeast in a prosperous area such as Sevenoaks. It has a great garden at the back but no garage at present but room to place a garage at the side of the house. The house has been in the ownership of the same Baldock family for 70 years and the last resident Ms Baldock left the property Cancer Research UK and the British Heart Foundation.”

Houses in Hillingdon Avenue when fully modernised generally sell in the range of £450,000 to £500,000. The guide price is £275,000 to £340,000.

Local developers and investors will also be interested in a nearby development site with full planning permission to build a two-bedroom bungalow with associated car parking. This represents a rare opportunity to buy at auction an undeveloped site in this popular area of Sevenoaks. The guide price is £120,000 to £150,000.

The auction will take place on Thursday 16th November at 2:30pm at The Auction House in Argyll Road, Sevenoaks, Kent.

Open viewing will be arranged by appointment. Please contact James Baring at Ibbett Mosely’s Sevenoaks Office 01732 452246.
