Tina uses the Limb Difference gripping aid from Active Hands

Karen Hostert has Limb Difference affecting her hands, meaning that getting a grip on everyday items can be a real struggle. Determined not to let this hold her back, Karen searched for a product that would enable her to access high street gyms without the need to use specialist or adapted equipment; something that would enable her to hold firmly to rowing machines, weights, pulleys and would allow her to broaden and vary her workout beyond the few limited pieces of equipment she could access herself.

After searching for some time, Karen contacted the Active Hands Company and began discussions about a bespoke gripping aid. Karen wasn’t alone in wanting such an aid and after discussions with several customers with limb difference, The Active Hands Company decided to develop a gripping aid specifically for users who have some or all of their fingers, or parts of their hand missing. This may include those with dysmelia (conditions from birth), or those who have sustained a limb difference through amputation, injury or illness later in life.
Having trialed the Limb Difference gripping aid in her gym workouts for while, Karen was thrilled to explain,

“While I have used the TRX straps in my workout - usually one or two moves interspersed with other activities - I have never done an entire TRX workout/class. Having the Active Hands product gave me the confidence to TRY it!

This morning we had a tricep move, our backs to the anchor, and I didn't need the strap. However - after three sets my hand and wrist was going into fatigue. I put the strap on looking for support - and was able to finish the set.
I was surprised how much support the strap gave to my wrist - and to my hand - even though I wasn't gripping. This was something I had not even considered using the product for. This experience reminded me again - to try the gripping product for various activities, not just the obvious ‘I can't hold something’.”

Karen was so excited by this new gripping aid that she continued to work alongside our design team, sending videos and emails to show what a difference it had made to her and the possibilities it had opened up for her:

“I was never able to progress past 7lb dumbbells- and that was rigging up homemade straps to help hold it. This week I progressed to 20lbs on upright row dumbbells, squatting and dead lifting a barbell with 20lbs on it. So - this little strap has opened a whole new set of goals and possibilities!"

For Karen, our limb difference aid has removed the need for specialist or adapted equipment. She can now access her local gym and complete a varied and interesting workout, using her limb difference gripping aid to enable her to set, and achieve, challenging goals.

The Active Hands Limb Difference gripping aid is ideal for gym users like Karen, but can also be used for a wide range of activities. It is perfect for gripping DIY equipment, kitchen implements, gardening tools and much more.

The new Limb Difference gripping aid is available now from www.activehands.com, along with a wide range of other solutions for those with poor hand function or strength. Take a look and see how our products can enable you to become more independent and active, just like they have for Karen.

The Active Hands Company designs, manufactures and sells products that enable people with poor hand function to 'get a grip' on every day objects. From items in the gym, gardening tools, kitchen implements, trikes, toys and DIY equipment...the possibilities are endless with Active Hands gripping aids.
