Helping Karen Survive Her Blood Cancer Journey

Blood cancer turned her life upside down. We helped her navigate the difficult journey to a bone marrow transplant.
That X-ray revealed something no one expected, a mass in her chest.
Karen was diagnosed with a form of blood cancer where the cancer cells grow in the lymph nodes rather than the bone marrow. Lymphoblastic lymphoma. Her only treatment was a bone marrow transplant.
She was terrified. Difficult questions flooded her mind. How will I handle the treatment? What will happen to my family? How much will it cost? How did this even happen, and why?
What is Blood Cancer?
Karen is not alone. Every three minutes, someone in the United States is diagnosed with blood cancer. Common types include leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. These diseases occur when blood cells grow abnormally and stop functioning properly.
Blood cancer comes without warning. And while we should all strive to live a healthy lifestyle, there is nothing you can do that will prevent it from happening. For many patients, a bone marrow transplant is the only cure.
How We Help
The journey to receive a transplant is overwhelming, not just physically but emotionally and financially. That's where the Icla da Silva Foundation steps in.
While insurance helps with hospital costs, much of the journey is left uncovered. Like most patients, Karen and her husband were not able to work during treatment. Just the cost of keeping the lights on caused tremendous financial strain.
We provide critical financial assistance, emotional support, and logistical guidance. Our efforts enable a patient and their family to focus on recovery, rather than panic over financial barriers.
Supporting Karen's Journey
Karen is one of the thousands of patients we've assisted in their battle against blood cancer. Just like so many others, her family's savings were depleted. In their time of need, the Icla da Silva Foundation helped cover essential expenses like transportation and utility bills so they could focus on treatment and transplant. We also delivered emotional support, guiding her through the process and making her feel like part of a community, a community of Survivors.
Karen was extremely grateful:
"Thank you to the generous people supporting Icla da Silva. Please continue helping people like me. You are a blessing. You made a big difference in our lives!" - Karen
Karen is doing well. She is still in recovery, but she is cherishing the time spent with her husband and their 7-year-old daughter.
You Can Be the Difference
Right now, another patient like Karen is struggling to get through treatment. They're worrying about how to make ends meet while fighting for their life.
Your donation will provide essentials like transportation, meals, or temporary housing, replacing worry with hope for a 2nd chance at life.
