trac-x Trading Results for January and February

Leipzig, 3 March 2009 – The German trac-x Transport Capacity Exchange GmbH has reported positive trading results for the first two months of 2009. In February alone, day-ahead trading reached a record high with an increase in traded day-ahead capacities of about 55 percent compared to the previous month.

January

In January, 302 (13,250 MWh/h) out of 653 (25,050 MWh/h) day-ahead auctions offered on the platform were successfully sold. At the cross-border point Bunde/Oude Statenzijl entry-capacities sized 10 as well as 100 MWh/h were favoured by bidders. At the cross-border point Eynatten/Raeren entry capacity packages sized 30 MWh/h were preferred. Moreover, the average price for auctioned day-ahead capacities at the network point Bunde/Oude Statenzijl amounted to € 7.43 per MWh/h in January and for day-ahead capacities at Eynatten/Raeren it amounted to an average of € 6.00 per MWh/h.

In the long-term section of the platform a total of 1,238 MWh/h were offered on the platform in January.

February

In February, 470 (20,546 MWh/h) out of 1,450 (54,394 MWh/h) day-ahead capacities offered on the platform were successfully purchased. It is the highest trading volume in day-ahead capacities achieved in a single month. At the cross-border point Bunde/Oude Statenzijl entry-capacities sized 10 as well as 100 MWh/h were favoured by bidders. At the cross-border point Eynatten/Raeren entry capacity packages sized 30 and 50 MWh/h were preferred. The average price for purchased day-ahead capacities at the network point Bunde/Oude Statenzijl amounted to € 8.86 per MWh/h in February and for day-ahead capacities at Eynatten/Raeren it amounted to an average of € 6.01 per MWh/h.
Moreover, after the platform’s expansion of tradable network points in February, day-ahead capacities at the German interconnection point Steinitz were offered on the platform for the first time last month. Moreover, day-ahead capacities within the networks of WINGAS TRANSPORT GmbH were offered on www.trac-x.de for the first time in February as well.

In the long-term section of the platform a total of 1,238 MWh/h were traded on the platform in February. The result represents the second best monthly trading result since the start of long-term trading. Altogether, 10 out of 30 long-term capacities offered on the platform were successfully purchased in February.

Overall, the trading results reflect the continuing positive development of trading on www.trac-x.de. Since its trading start in March 2005, the overall trading volume has reached 78,640 MWh/h. This includes 66,459 MWh/h from day-ahead trading since its trading start in May 2008.

trac-x Transport Capacity Exchange GmbH was established in order to create a transparent and non-discriminatory trading platform for secondary trading of transmission capacities. It has operated a trading platform for gas transmission capacities in Europe since March 2005. Currently, around 360 traders from 17 countries are registered on www.trac-x.de. They can trade secondary capacity rights across Europe within the networks of the following transmission system operators: Dong Energy Pipelines GmbH, E.ON Gastransport GmbH, EWE NETZ GmbH, RWE Transportnetz Gas GmbH, Gasunie Deutschland Transport Services GmbH, Ontras GmbH.

In addition to long-term trading, it is possible to trade firm day-ahead capacity rights at the cross-border point Bunde/Oude Statenzijl (between Germany and the Netherlands) since May 2008. Moreover, due to close collaboration with European network operators, it is possible to trade day-ahead capacities at further cross-border points as well as German interconnection points. Thus, day-ahead capacities can also be traded at the cross-border points Eynatten/Raeren, Ellund, Emden EPT, Emden NPT, Bochholtz, Medelsheim, Oberkappel, Vreden and Wallbach as well as at the German interconnection points Reckrod, Bunder Tief, Lampertheim. Drohne, Emsbüren, Steinbrinck und Steinitz.
