Ecotel GSM3-3x analog GSM gateway now shipping
Vierling’s Ecotel GSM3-3x cuts connection costs with mobile radio networks or can be used to connect PBXs, fax machines and PCs via mobile radio.Ebermannstadt, Germany – December 11, 2008. The new Ecotel GSM3-3x analog GSM gateway is now available from specialized dealers. Companies can connect the gateway to an analog outside line or extension of their PBX to enjoy significantly lower charges when making calls with mobile radio networks. In most cases, the gateway will pay for itself in only a few months. Ecotel GSM3-3x can also be used as a mobile “last mile” solution, for example in vehicles or on construction sites. The GSM gateway allows connection of telephones, fax machines and PCs needing Internet connectivity via mobile radio at locations without fixed network access. The gateway includes a separate fax interface and supports the General Packet Radio Service (GPRS).
Browser-based user interface sets new standards
“We designed the Ecotel GSM3-3x as a professional gateway for use by small- to medium-sized companies”, said Markus Diehl, Director Sales Marketing at Vierling. “We focused on building a robust gateway that would work with all of the common PBXs and deliver maximum voice quality. We also created a browser-based configuration interface that sets new standards in terms of ease of use and flexibility. With only a few clicks of the mouse, service technicians can set any configuration or routing.” Ecotel GSM3-3x has a built-in mobile radio module and a SIM card slot. Once connected to either an analog outside line or extension port of the PBX, the gateway makes cost-effective direct calls between mobile radio networks instead of expensive calls between the fixed network and mobile radio networks.
Powerful fax function for last mile operation
Ecotel GSM3-3x can also be used to connect analog telephones, entire PBXs, fax machines, multifunctional devices and PCs to the global telecommunications infrastructure via GSM mobile radio. The gateway is useful, for example, in mobile offices, service vehicles and weekend homes as well as on construction sites and inland water vessels. “The fax function in the Ecotel GSM3-3x is significantly more powerful than that of its predecessor, the Ecotel GSM3-1x”, said Bernhard Emmert, Lead Developer for GSM gateways at Vierling. “Ecotel GSM3-3x works reliably with almost all fax machines and mobile radio networks.” Vierling is still completing work on the data function, however. The GPRS capability required to connect PCs to the Internet will not be available until the 2nd quarter of 2009. It will be delivered in the form of a free software update.
More performance for less money
“Ecotel GSM3-3x represents a milestone for users of analog GSM gateways”, said Markus Diehl. “In terms of performance, flexibility and ease of use, we now have the leader among all commercially available solutions. With the fax function, we have even expanded our existing lead. Additionally, with its software-oriented, Linux-based architecture, the gateway can be extended through a simple software update for ensured future viability.” The software-oriented architecture also makes
Ecotel GSM3-3x more cost-effective than its predecessor, the
Ecotel GSM3-1x. “Our customers are getting more performance for less money”, said Diehl. With its favorable price-to-performance ratio, Vierling sees good sales prospects for the new GSM gateway in Germany, Western Europe, Central Europe and particularly in Eastern Europe.
