TrueData X-OPS 48

TrueData X-OPS 48

For many years, car manufactures around the world research and develop various concepts for a more efficient powertrain. In this process, the main goal is the reduction of global CO2 emissions. Besides the optimization of combustion engines, the focus is set on the establishment of alternative powertrain technologies in a serial production that work without fossil fuels.

The global automotive industry stuck in an enduring conversion process that influences several aspects of approved vehicle development. Especially the powertrain R&D is affected by this process. As the relation between engine output and fuel consumption was optimized during decades, in order to receive a more effective performance, the focus changed within the last 10 years and is now set on the CO2 emission of vehicles. Furthermore, the EU regulation for the reduction of CO2 emissions of passenger cars re-defined the compulsory legal framework for future car generations in April 2009. As a consequence, the reduction of CO2 emissions was set on an average of 95 g/km by 2020 which complies saving of 20 % compared to 1990.

During the last years, several approaches were extracted for the attainment that contains both mid- and short-term solutions. As the focus on electromobility and the application of fuel cell systems is more interesting in a mid-term planning, the integration of 48 V on-board power supply systems within combustion vehicles provides also short-term solutions that realize the emission reduction in a hybrid kind. The developments in this field are sustainable as even vehicles with electromobility or fuel cell powertrain system will further use the 48 V on-board power supply in perspective.

For testing and developing 48 V on-board power supply systems, FuelCon provides different product solutions that fit perfect for various applications and convince with an overall efficiency of 96 %, excellent accuracy and highest system dynamic. The TrueData X-OPS 48 was specially designed as battery emulator for motor and electric motor test stations as well as for 48 V component tests. The system is able to replicate the behavior of electrical energy storages up to 56 V both functionally and electrically whereby battery modules, battery systems, fuel cell systems and 48 V on-board power supplies can be emulated. Besides constant modes of power, voltage, resistors and performance, it is even possible to set switching conditions and alarm boundaries. Due to the universal port concept, devices are easy to control via CAN interface which allows an unproblematic integration into pre-existing test runs.

Furthermore, FuelCon’s powerful TrueData X-HVE is designed for higher performance ranges and covers voltages up to 1,000 V, currents up to 1,200 A and power outputs up to 600 kW. Parallel alignment enables higher currents and power that can be used for the emulation of entire energy networks. Both devices come along with extensive safety features, protecting operator and test items. Those include i.a. monitored safety controllers, ISO controller and safety version according to ISO 13849.

Consequently intelligent: that’s how we love solutions. FuelCon is the global leading supplier of test and diagnostic systems for fuel cells and batteries. For years, our name is recognized for innovative engineering and high quality, for highest safety standards and close consultation with our costumer.

With our testing systems for fuel cells we offer optimal solutions for all typical technologies like PEM or SOFC in a power range between a few watts up to 250 kW. In addition, innovative test systems for evaluating electrolyser are available. With the “Evaluator-B” series we have developed a concept that fulfils the challenging testing requirements of modern batteries with high accuracy and flexibility.
The test systems enable the comparison, evaluation and optimization of battery modules and packs, as well as simulation of different requirements for customized applications.

Testing and validating fuel cells is a highly complex procedure, where many single steps need to intertwine in order to eventually supply reliable measuring data and results. In dependence on the respective technology, this means especially an extensive preparation of test runs, where the test item, the test station and the test procedure as such must be enabled and adjusted for the corresponding requirements. As an experienced manufacturer of test stations

Energy-saving cycling and testing of battery cells
FuelCon will introduce its new product TrueData-EPCD at AABC Europe conference in Mainz. The TrueData-EPCD combines all features of a multi-channel charge / discharge unit with a new and innovative concept for minimizing energy consumption in battery fields through so-called EPCD technology. The acronym EPCD thereby stands for Energy-Pump-Charging-Discharging. Conventional methods allow energy feedback into existing grids. Due to efficiency losses this is technically and economically worthwhile only for channel power higher
Impedance measurement within Micro-Ohm range
FuelCon further enhances impedance analyzer device TrueData-EIS Responding to changing market and customer requirements for impedance measuring devices, FuelCon has enhanced its TrueData-EIS electrochemical impedance spectrum analyzer, allowing now measurements within Micro-Ohm impedance range. Impedance spectroscopy plays a major role especially for battery characterization by providing, amongst others, information about quality or deterioration behaviour. The lately observable trend of Li-Ion batteries towards higher capacities implies significant smaller internal resistances inside the cell.
