Jankel announces new Chief Engineer as part of expansion plans

Jankel Armouring Ltd, the world-class protection systems specialist, has announced the appointment of Mike Coughlan as Chief Engineer to its automotive division.

Coughlan is a highly experienced vehicle engineer, having worked across all disciplines in competitive motor sport and defence vehicle design and build.

He joins Jankel from Richard Childress Racing, a NASCAR racing team in the USA, and has previously held senior roles at companies including McLaren, Williams Racing, and British Land Rover. It was while at Land Rover that he worked on the Land Rover FFR 24 volt conversion. He was also the senior engineer at Force Protection Europe, working on their Ocelot vehicle which ultimately entered service for the British Army as their new mine resistant vehicle.

“I am delighted to be joining Jankel at a time of growth across its key markets,” said Coughlan. “I’ll be using my experience to help develop innovative vehicle engineering solutions that offer our customers the very best in performance and durability as they operate in challenging environments. My experience both in high-end racing car design and defence engineering gives me a great foundation to drive Jankel forward.”

Coughlan joins the team at Jankel’s Rustington, UK facility, where he will be the design authority for all vehicle business stream projects. He will be responsible for engineering design and delivery and will oversee the growth and development of our specialist vehicle engineering teams.

“We’re very excited that Mike has joined us at Jankel,” commented Mike Mullen, Managing Director. “He has outstanding experience in sectors that are respected for their innovation, problem solving and rapid turnaround, and his commercial focus along with his vehicle engineering expertise will help us to ensure that we are constantly delivering high-performance vehicles alongside ‘right-first-time’ engineering principles to all our customers.
