This year the juries awarded three first, four second and six third prizes. The total sum awarded for main and special prizes was 188,500 Euros. For the first time in 40 years, a 1st prize was again awarded in the clarinet category – and for the very first time in the 57-year history of the competition, a first prize was awarded in the bassoon category. All in all, 198 young instrumentalists from 52 countries took part in this year’s competition.

Said Axel Linstädt, the Artistic Director of the Music Competition, summing things up: “I am delighted with the high performance level in all the categories and the sizable audience interest. The enthusiastic audience reaction in the sold-out Prinzregententheater at the string quartet finals made me very happy.”
