Historical Short Fiction Prize Shortlist Announced - Ink of Ages Fiction Prize
Ink of Ages Fiction Prize
Godalming, UK, 20 Dec 2023 - World History Encyclopedia announced the short stories that have been selected for the official shortlist of the Ink of Ages Fiction Prize, an international writing competition that highlights historical or mythology-inspired short fiction, generously sponsored by Oxford University Press.
A grand total of 148 authors submitted short fiction stories and the 17 below have been chosen as the official shortlist by the World History Encyclopedia editorial team, based on their literary merit, originality, creativity, historical interest and enjoyment. The contest is judged by Timothy Bent (Oxford University Press), J.F. Fox (author), Helen Nde (author & mythology researcher), Stefan Vranka (Oxford University Press), Wendy Orr (author), David Tollen (author & speaker), Louise M. Pryke (historian & author), Joanne Taylor (World History Encyclopedia) and Zhihui Zou (World History Encyclopedia).
The selected short stories are:

"The Seventh Month" by Nandita Ray
"A Somewhat Laughing Matter" by Bill C. Wilson
"Ruby Crane" by Paul J P Slater
"Tools of Fate" by Sulayman Kindi
"The Untold Story of the Murder of Isis" by Victoria Alvear
"After the Siege" by Daniel Wan
"The Coin" by E. Jamieson
"Myrrhine" by Jenyth Evans
"Mater Patriae" by Sherry Christie
"To be Free" by Louis Hill
"Mnemosyne and Her Muses" by Alice Rowe
"Bequeath" by Susan James
"Girl Beasts" by Firza Hapsari
"Circles in the Sand" by Sallyann Halstead
"End of Days" by E V Wallce
The winners will be announced on 24 January 2024. The final winner, 2nd and 3rd place authors will have their work featured on World History Encyclopedia and on Oxford University Press' social media channels, and they will receive prizes sponsored by both organizations.
