Shenzhen - Prof Emeritus Dr Sureswaran Ramadass, Head of Department for the Medical Informatics Program at RCSI & UCD Malaysia Campus (RUMC [https://www.rumc.edu.my/]), has been recently featured as a key expert at the 2026 BRICS Forum in Shenzhen, China, on Future Networks Innovation.

Prof Sureswaran presented his paper on how Next Generation Networks empower developing and developed nations to leap into enabling high speed networks to provide AI and Cloud connectivity. This is important given the speed of growth of the digital economy. He also spoke on how NIDA (Network Innovation and Development Alliance), APAC IPv6 Council and WBBA are working together to provide advanced solutions for the BRICS partners to use.

Prof Sureswaran also contributed alongside global leaders in telecommunications and internet governance in a plenary discussion on BRICS nextgeneration network innovation, underscoring RUMC's growing role in shaping the future of digital healthcare across emerging economies. His participation positioned Malaysia, and RUMC in particular, at the forefront of conversations on how advanced network architectures will power the next wave of medical informatics and smart hospital systems.

As Chair of the APAC IPv6 Council and Vice Chair of NIDA, Prof Sureswaran brings deep expertise in future internet protocols and network innovation, coupled with his academic leadership as Professor Emeritus at RUMC. These roles enable him to bridge cuttingedge network research with the practical realities of healthcare delivery, highlighting how robust, secure and scalable connectivity is now a core component of clinical quality, patient safety and healthcare systems' resilience.

During another technical presentation at the SubForum on NextGeneration Intelligent Networks, Prof Sureswaran presented a case study of how such network innovations are being implemented by SENA Healthcare Services in Malaysia. The focus was on how advanced Wi-Fi technology allowed network convergence schemes for hospital environments, demonstrating how traditional siloed networks can be transformed into fully integrated, applicationaware infrastructures. He illustrated how converged wireless and IoT architectures can support smart wards, realtime personnel positioning, medical guidance and navigation, asset management, infusion monitoring, and medical waste management on a single, coherent network layer. This advanced campus implementation plan was provided by the NIDA Alliance.

"The future of medical informatics depends on the ability of hospitals to move from fragmented, servicespecific networks to unified, intelligent infrastructures that can securely support clinical decisionmaking, patient monitoring and operational analytics," Prof Sureswaran explained in his talk. "By designing hospital networks as platforms for innovation, we create the foundation for AIenabled diagnostics, precision medicine and datadriven healthcare management that can scale across regions and countries."

RUMC's Medical Informatics Department has been actively integrating these principles into its syllabus, research initiatives and industry engagement, preparing its students and healthcare professionals to work in environments where digital systems are as critical as physical infrastructure. The insights shared by Prof Sureswaran at the BRICS Forum will be incorporated into RUMC's student projects and elective modules, strengthening the university's role as a hub for digital health capacitybuilding in Malaysia and globally.

Prof Sureswaran's work with international bodies such as the APAC IPv6 Council and NIDA also opens new avenues for collaborative research, student mobility and joint initiatives in areas such as smart hospitals, network security in healthcare, and interoperable health information systems. RUMC's [https://www.rumc.edu.my/] President & CEO, Prof Karen Morgan, reiterated that RUMC will continue to leverage these global linkages to advance medical informatics education and research, supporting Malaysia's ambition to build and grow its worldclass, digitally enabled healthcare services.
