Interview to Air May 11

WAKE FOREST, N.C. (May 6, 2008)—TheClassicalStation.org announces today that its weekly program “Preview!” will feature an interview with oboist Joseph Robinson. The interview can be heard during the station’s Sunday, May 11 program that airs from 6-9 p.m. ET.

During the program, Robinson will discuss with “Preview!” host Deana Vassar his 27-year career as Principal Oboe with the New York Philharmonic. In addition, the two will talk about Robinson’s favorite conductors to work with, as well as his May 18 performance with The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle.

“It has been said that Joseph Robinson has ‘the power to turn a simple note into bliss,’” says Vassar. “His concert with the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle performing Vaughan Williams’ ‘A Minor Concerto’ should make for a dream of an afternoon."

Robinson remains active in the musical community since retiring from the Philharmonic in 2005. He continues to appear as an oboe soloist, chamber musician, teacher and clinician. He is Artist in Residence at Duke University during the spring semester, and spends time in the summer coaching and teaching aspiring musicians at the Bowdoin International Music Festival.

“Preview!” is a weekly feature that airs every Sunday evening from 6–9 p.m. ET and presents the latest in classical recordings and upcoming classical events. WCPE’s live broadcast of Great Classical Music 24, Hours a Day can be accessed around the globe in several ways: on-line streaming in multiple formats, including IPv6; local cable television systems; and traditional radio broadcasting. A complete list of the ways WCPE is available with instructions for cable and satellite reception can be found at theclassicalstation.org/listen.shtml.

About Joseph Robinson:
From June 1978 until September 2005, Joseph Robinson served as Principal Oboe of the New York Philharmonic. Each spring semester Robinson is Artist in Residence at Duke University, where he produced important double reed events in 2006 and 2007. At Duke, he frequently collaborates with other faculty members, most often the Ciompi Quartet, with whom he has performed the Bliss Quintet many times, as well as the world premiere of a Quintet for Oboe and Strings written for him by composer Robert Ward. Robinson continues to coach and teach each summer at the Bowdoin International Music Festival and participates in the Bellingham Festival of Music. For more information, visit www.oboejoe.net.
