War of Impatience: Leading to Corruption by Samantha Maria Robinson
Every day, we are faced with battles-some visible, others hidden. At the heart of each one is a choice: Patience or Impatience? Love or Corruption? The Bad War, or the Good War?Having a lack of patience can be dangerous. People tend to want things they think are good and best for them, not truly realizing and understanding that the outcome can potentially be toxic, causing harm and/or even war. Our actions not only have an effect on ourselves but also impact those around us. When people are impatient, the very things that are lusted over eventually start to take over the mind and heart, all because the individual can't or does not have their own desires at that moment. This will eventually lead to them doing anything in their power to obtain what it is they are after, leading them to steal, kill, and/or even destroy things just to receive what it is their heart is after. We tend to see a lot of this today in our society, regardless of financial status. The poor do it for financial gain, while the rich do it for control and power. From robberies within our communities to wars between countries and presidential politics, everything leads to one thing... being impatient.
A lot of people want what they don't have and will plot to gain access to the very thing that may kill them (whether it is physically, mentally, emotionally, and/or spiritually). Without patience, corruption starts to brew. Lies begin to be told, actions don't match the words spoken, and deception takes over. Silent competitions have taken over. Love is lost, and patience has decreased. People have become all for themselves and only for their own, forgetting that we are all humans living on the same earth, bleeding the same blood. Wars have taken place within countries, schools, communities, and within our very own relationships. As pride, control, and jealousy developed, wars unfolded, causing division, lack of compassion, and impatience.
As a result of impatience, relationships have been broken, and people's lives have been in danger all over. Wars have started over items that we may value, but at the end, it takes everything valuable away. If patience was exercised, communication, compassion, and love would increase. The understanding of what is for us will be for us would truly be understood and accepting what we don't have might actually be a good thing would be considered. Our minds and hearts are connected. What is in our hearts will eventually affect our minds, which would then affect our words and will eventually be exposed through our actions. Patience increases our endurance, giving us strength and hope. The very things we are after could either kill us or improve our well-being. Receiving the heart's desires too early may cause issues, and not receiving them may cause our minds to become curious. Either way, it is better to be patient and wait than for war to begin.
Going to war against others can lead to either the death of others or the death of yourself. It is a war that will end in a tragedy, a loss that could have been prevented and irreversible. As for the war within yourself can only lead to one death: yourself. However, the death in itself can either be bad or it can be good. The death that would be bad is a physical death, but the death that is good is the dying to self, a spiritual, emotional, and mental death. It's a good death as it allows everything to pass away: all old habits, traditions, ways of living, thinking, speaking, and acting, etc. This death causes self-reflection, giving a second opportunity for all things to become new. This war is the only war that is good. It always ends with peace while restarting and regaining a new life, giving new lenses to view creation with. Wars occur each and every day in the lives of many individuals (even those close to us); as many are at war within themselves. As an unanswered thought or emotion presents itself, a choice is then automatically given: Patience or Impatience? Each choice having its own natural consequences, causing a tug-of-war to begin between the angel and devil sitting on each shoulder.
It is the final decision that determines which side will take the forefront in the war: Patience or Impatience? Love or Corruption? The Bad War or the Good War?
As you reflect on the truths shared above, you may be wondering: How do we begin to teach this virtue of patience to the next generation? In a world where even adults struggle with waiting, how can we help children understand the value of stillness, trust, and God's perfect timing?
One answer lies in intentional teaching, and thankfully, there's a resource crafted just for this purpose.
