Unterkrumbach, January 2026 - While classic fitted kitchens often serve only as functional spaces, Die Moebelmacher from Unterkrumbach are redefining the kitchen. With their custom-made cooking islands made from local solid wood, they create sculptures in the room that combine design standards, ecological responsibility, and the highest quality of life. A new specialist website now highlights the synergy between ergonomics and aesthetics. In modern architecture, the cooking island has long been more than just a trend; it is the social heart of the home. But not all cooking islands are the same. "A kitchen island must adapt to people, not the other way around," explains Herwig Danzer, managing director of Moebelmacher. The specialist for custom-made products from the Franconian Alb consistently relies on regional solid wood and planning that goes far beyond standard dimensions. A central aspect of Moebelmacher's philosophy is perfect ergonomics. Since each kitchen is individually manufactured in their own workshop, the working height of the cooking island can be precisely tailored to the user - and even electrically height-adjustable on request. At the heart of it all is state-of-the-art technology such as the Tepan Yaki or an induction wok, which are seamlessly integrated into the solid wood structure.

Sustainability you can feel Unlike conventional kitchens made of chipboard, Moebelmacher's solid wood kitchens breathe. The wood used comes from the region (Hersbrucker Alb), is ecologically oiled, and ensures a healthy indoor climate. They have just been awarded the German Sustainability Prize for this. "When you stand at a cooking island made of real cherry, oak, or beech, you feel connected to nature. This enhances your quality of life with every move you make," Danzer continues. The company was founded in 1988 in Hersbruck near Nuremberg as a holistically oriented furniture manufacturer. In 1997, the newly founded Die Moebelmacher GmbH, which now has around 15 employees, moved into the new eco-friendly building in Unterkrumbach, where furniture and kitchens are custom-made from solid wood sourced from the region.
The range is complemented by complete furnishings for kitchens, living rooms, and workspaces, from lighting and upholstered furniture to curtains and even hi-fi systems made from local wood. They have been awarded the Sustainability Prize of the City of Nuremberg, named Bavaria's Environmental Ambassador, won the Thalhofer Prize, and since the 2005 Craftsmanship Prize, they have been ranked among the seven best German craft businesses. In 2010, they won the German Local Sustainability Prize. In 2021 and 2022, they were nominated for the Lammsbraeu Sustainability Award and the German Sustainability Award "Local Hero," and again in 2023 and 2024. In 2023, they won the IGR Innovation Award for Ergonomics, and in 2024, their workshop was voted the most beautiful in Germany by the jury of the trade journal DDS. On November 28, 2024, they won the German Sustainability Award 2025 in the furniture and furnishings category.
