Jon Garon named Associate Dean for Innovation and Technology at NSU Shepard Broad College of Law
Professor Jon Garon has been appointed to serve as the new Associate Dean for Technology & Innovation at Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Dean Garon teaches Constitutional Law, Contracts, Privacy Law, Entertainment Law, IP Law and related courses. In leading the Technology & Innovation program at NSU Law, Dean Garon facilitates curricular and co-curricular education for students, faculty, alumni, and community partners on the ways in which technology impacts legal fields and pedagogy. Dean Garon supports NSU Law's efforts for continuing legal education for attorneys and judges, expanding experiential training for students, pedagogical and scholarship support for faculty, and an exploration of topics related to artificial intelligence, legal technology, intellectual property, cyber security, privacy, digital assets, and related fields.Dean Garon is a noted author and public advocate in the field. Recent publications include: Artificial Intelligence Law and Regulation in a Nutshell (West Academic 2025); How AI, Metaverses, Crypto, and Cyber will Upend the 21st Century (Edward Elgar 2024); and The Law of Digital Content (Am. Bar. Ass'n 2025) (editor and co-author).
Dean Garon has published more than 70 academic articles, books, and book chapters, and he has presented more than 300 programs. A Minnesota native, he received his bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota in 1985 and his juris doctor degree from Columbia University School of Law in 1988.
Dean Garon served as dean for NSU's Shepard Broad College of Law from 2014 to 2020. He currently serves as the Director of the Goodwin Program for Society, Technology, and the Law and oversees the Master of Science in Law (MSL) degree program and the Legal Masters (LL.M.) program. Prior to joining Nova Southeastern University in 2014, Dean Garon was the inaugural director of the Northern Kentucky University Salmon P. Chase College of Law, Law + Informatics Institute, serving from 2011 to2014. He served as dean and professor of law at Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota from 2003 to 2008 and interim dean of the Hamline Graduate School of Management from 2005 to 2006. Before Hamline, Dean Garon taught Entertainment Law and Copyright at Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, New Hampshire and Western State University College of Law in Orange County, California. Dean Garon has been named a Senior Scholar at the IPPI: The IP Policy Institute, University of Akron School of Law Washington, D.C. and an Affiliated Faculty Member at the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law.
