Press release from: CleanWave Group

The CHROMA Gallery in Charlottesville, VA will have a collective show that features a brand new artwork by multimedia and environmental Dutch artist Sonja Weber Gilkey. The piece entitled Kundalini Rising conveys the increasingly fragile nature and lasting importance of the oceans. Sonja Weber Gilkey is a visual artist born in The Netherlands who derives most of her inspiration and materials from the sea. Her work is tactile and moving.
Art Critic Carl Little has said of Sonja Weber Gilkey “"Sonja Gilkey is a remarkable artist. Her use of materials and her sense of aesthetics are, to use a term favored by Cocteau, astonishing. Here is a believer in the transformative power of art.”
There is a tangible connectivity demonstrated in Sonja's work. Everything is linked. And there is a message - let's preserve what we still have.
Inspired by the rustic ocean on the coast of Maine where Sonja is surrounded by the deep power of the sea, she is called to the ocean, a beautiful and fragile environment increasingly impacted by humans. Sonja Weber Gilkey creates powerful art works that transcend location and bring a message of a timeless connection between nature and the spiritual.

The exhibit will run from January 6 – 28, 2017 First Friday Reception January 6, 5-7PM CHROMA Gallery 201 East Main, 2nd Floor Charlottesville, VA
