Eivind Gullberg Jensen, star amongst the Norwegian conductors and chief conductor of the NDR Radio Philharmonics in Germany, is continuing his triumphant ascent with three prestigious projects in his homeland. On August 4th he will be awarded the “Arve Tellefsen Music Prize” for the second time, at the Olavsfest Dagene in Trondheim. After that Eivind Gullberg Jensen will lead the Norwegian National Youth Orchestra in Mahler´s Symphony No. 2 in C minor at the Elverum Music Festival (August 13th), at the Kammermusikk festival in Oslo (August 14th) and in the historical Olavshallen in Trondheim (August 16th). At the Queen Sonja Music Competition he will lead the final concert with the Orchestra of the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet (August 26th), while Her Majesty will hand over the prizes to the finalists.

The “Arve Tellefsen Music Prize” – worth NOK 100.000 – is one of Norway´ s most coveted awards for young, ground-breaking musicians. This great honour will be given to Eivind Gullberg Jensen in the Nidarosdomen, where he will be conducting the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and the Norwegian Opera Choir with Verdi´s “Requiem”. To receive this award again makes it a matter of trust and responsibility for him: “It is a great honour to receive this prize in the name of Arve Tellefsen, who is and has been the leading personality within classical music in Norway, since I was born.”

The Norwegian National Youth Orchestra is well renowned for its great musical quality and for being an important recruiting pool for professional orchestras worldwide. Three concert programs involving famous conductors and soloists are presented every year at the Elverum Music Festival, as well as at other venues in Norway and abroad. The Norwegian National Youth Orchestra was founded in 1973 and is credited for having contributed greatly to the quality of Norwegian orchestras. Eivind Gullberg Jensen made of this cooperation a matter of his heart by promoting young Norwegian talents.

In his domain in Lower Saxony, Eivind Gullberg Jensen will start the next season in September. There he will be in charge of several important concerts with “his” NDR Radio Philharmonics and great soloists in 2011, such as Leif Ove Andsnes (September 8th & 9th), Frank Peter Zimmermann (September 15th & 16th), Anne-Sophie Mutter (November 13th) and Hilary Hahn (November 17th). He will return to Norway in October to conduct the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra at the Konserthus. For more information please follow the link www.eivindgullbergjensen.com
