Kevin Rader is an urban developer, entrepreneur and keen observer of urban dynamics. In an interview with us, he shares his views on the city of Magdeburg - a place that is still an insider tip for many.

Question: Mr. Rader, you have been involved in urban development for years. What attracts you to Magdeburg?

Kevin Rader: Magdeburg is exciting because there is still a lot going on here. While many large cities are already largely "finished", Magdeburg offers real scope for development. The city has been through a lot historically and structurally - but it is precisely this that is now creating dynamism.

Question: How would you assess the prospects for Magdeburg as a location?

Rader: I see very positive signs. The investments in infrastructure, such as the expansion of the university or the establishment of major industrial projects like Intel, are not only creating jobs, but also changing the city's image. Magdeburg is developing from an underestimated industrial location into a future-oriented technology city.

Question: Are there any districts that you find particularly interesting?

Rader: Definitely. The Buckau district is particularly exciting at the moment. Here, the charm of old buildings meets a creative scene, and there is a lot going on in terms of culture and gastronomy. Stadtfeld Ost also remains a classic - very lively, popular with young families and creative types. Anyone looking to invest should also take a look at Salbke or Reform - there is still a lot of untapped potential there.

Question: How is the housing market looking?

Rader: Magdeburg is still relatively cheap compared to other cities. This attracts many young people and families. But prices are rising - especially in the popular districts. If you want to invest here, you shouldn't wait too long.

Question: What challenges do you see?

Rader: As in many cities, the social mix must be taken into account. If investments are only aimed at hip neighborhoods, displacement effects quickly arise. Magdeburg has the opportunity to learn from the mistakes of other cities - and to shape development in a socially balanced way.

Question: What developments are you observing in the area of entrepreneurship and start-ups?

Rader: The university is a clear driver of innovation. There is a growing start-up scene, especially in the tech and education sectors. However, it needs more visibility, more networks and also more venture capital on site. There is still room for improvement.

Question: And on a personal note: do you have a favorite place in Magdeburg?

Rader (laughs): The Elbauenpark at sunset - that's when you realize how beautiful this city actually is. It's worth taking a closer look.

Question: Thank you very much for the interview.

Rader: With pleasure!
