About Open Space
Today it’s obvious that art fairs are seeking for new approaches on what makes their central business: communicating and bringing art to the collectors, the curators and the people. In the year 2005 we have launched OPEN SPACE as an experimental, project related platform and unique environment, embedded in the very center of the Art Cologne. It was one of the first attempts to rethink and reinvent the framework of an art fair apart from standard booth settings. Coming up with an unique setting and context of carefully developed presentations of artworks and projects, thus giving a fresh look to the galleries and customers needs, OPEN SPACE has succeeded as the best frequented and reviewed area of the Art Cologne and a made to measure for some others. About Art Cologne
The ART COLOGNE presents a comprehensive overview of the art of the 20th and 21st centuries — from modernism to the most recent works by contemporary artists. In addition to important works from the post-war period, the exhibitors are increasingly focusing on contemporary art. In 2008, ART COLOGNE will run from 16 to 20 April at the Cologne Trade Fair Centre. In the interest of quality the list of exhibitors has been further optimized in terms of gallery calibre: around 140 international art galleries will be exhibiting at the upcoming ART COLOGNE. In addition, 19 up-and-coming new galleries will be exhibiting works as part of the New Contemporaries programme sponsored by the Sparkasse Köln/Bonn savings bank. One of the oldest special programmes for sponsoring young artists and innovative new works of art is New Talents. 17 young artists will be presented here by ART COLOGNE exhibitors, showing a grand scale of media. And there are four participants in the Hidden Treasures programme. Here, on the recommendation of the ART COLOGNE Committee the exhibitors can present solo shows for artists who are important in the history of art but have not yet received the recognition they deserve on the art market. The Hidden Treasures of ART COLOGNE 2007 will be: Norbert Kricke (gallery Strelow, Düsseldorf/ gallery Wahlandt, Stuttgart), Ulrike Rosenbach (gallery March, Stuttgart), Fritz Winter (gallery Utermann, Dortmund) und Karl Bohrmann (manus presse, Stuttgart).
