markilux launches first wedge-in system with folding arms

With its folding arms and a full cassette the "markilux 900" wedge-in awning is the first of its kind.
With the high summer temperatures that are now forecast every year, comprehensive solar protection on balconies is increasingly in demand. Recently, a new product has appeared on the market precisely to fulfil this purpose: the "markilux 900". The awning can be secured using a wedge-in mechanism using two accro bars between the balcony floor and ceiling and adds graceful charm to any balcony. It is the first model of its kind that features folding arms and an easily cared for full cassette and is available in three standard frame colours. With all its advantages, it is particularly suitable for tenants and apartment owners in cities and urban areas. The product could also be of interest to housing co-operatives or associations as well as construction companies.
Clear view at a pitch of just five degrees
"The new technical approach with our wedge-in system offers a number of advantages. Because, unlike conventional drop-arm awnings, which can be secured in a similar way, the cover in this model is protected from soiling in a graceful full cassette and thus retains its beautiful appearance for a long time," explains Michael Gerling, Director of R&D and Production at markilux. Furthermore, due to its special construction, balconies can be afforded plenty of shade at an awning pitch of just five degrees. According to Mr Gerling, this ensures an unobstructed view outside. Normally, around 45 degrees is the standard for the current models, which, together with their lateral drop arms at the side, prevents users from having a clear view. If, however, customers are looking for plenty of protection from prying eyes, a markilux specialist dealer can adjust the pitch of the new awning to an angle of up to 70 degrees.
Quickly installed and just as easy to remove
The force-adjustable wedge-in mechanism, which can be attached using very few fixing points, means there is no need for the awning to be fitted to a wall or ceiling which is otherwise the case in folding-arm awnings. "This means that the solar protection system can be fitted quickly and easily. It is also possible to secure the accro bars to the balcony railing on higher floors and everything can be easily dismantled again if you move house," the Director stresses. The awning is then easy to dismantle when tenants move on, a fact that will probably convince them that this is a good awning to install - especially since the new product is very discreet thanks to its inconspicuous appearance and the compactness of the cassette, which measures just 10 centimetres in height. If desired and structurally possible, it can also be attached to the underside of the balcony above using special brackets as an alternative to a classic folding-arm awning.
Attractive and suitable for any balcony
"In addition to a modern, lightweight design, we made sure we were using the best material quality for all components, which makes for a long service life," says Michael Gerling. This is why the cassette and accro bars are powder-coated and thus remain resistant to the weather for years. And there is a cover for the adjustable jointed feet of the support posts, which adapt themselves to any unevenness in the floor, protecting fixings and seals and also hiding them from sight. With a width of between two and four metres and a projection of one and a half or two metres, the dimensions are based on classic balcony sizes. This is also true of the standing height which can vary between 235 and 265 centimetres. The new shade provider either features a winding handle or is conveniently motor-driven, which is otherwise rarely the case in drop-arm awnings. Another advantage is the manufacturer's bionic tendon made of robust high-tech fibres which make the folding arms particularly stable. "With our 'markilux 900' we are catering to the growing demand for effective heat protection on balconies, too. With a lot of practical benefits and in designer quality. We therefore believe that our new product will create a lot of interest," explains a confident Michael Gerling.
