Designer awnings from markilux underline the modern style of a new building in the Freistadt district of Austria

A young family of four from Bad Zell in Austria wanted weatherproof shading to protect the three patios around their new home that also matched the architecture. The owners selected awning models from the manufacturer markilux. Additional glare and wind protection as well as lighting systems and infrared heaters have created a number of cosy seating areas in the spacious garden.

A new building in the middle of the countryside in Erdleiten near Bad Zell, surrounded by a spacious garden, counts as one of markilux's special reference installations. Because here, in the Mühlviertel area of Austria, a local specialist dealer installed three large systems by the awning specialist after the building was completed in 2020.

Large awning systems were needed
"The Gruber family wanted to protect the main patio right in front of the building as well as a pool area in the garden and a separate barbecue patio from the sun, wind and rain," explains Christiane Berning, Head of the Marketing and Business Development Department at markilux. The reason being that the family spends a lot of time in the garden and wanted weatherproof awnings for these rest and leisure areas that would match the style of their new house in terms of colour and design. Due to the size of the three patios, large awning systems were needed.

More comfort with glare and wind protection
The seating and sunbathing area by the pool, with a surface area of 15 square metres, has since been covered by the free-standing "markilux markant" awning system. In this system, the awning cover is pulled along horizontal guide tracks. "Additional vertical blinds, which can be lowered as necessary, provide protection both from the wind and glare," explains Ms Berning. The couple decided on the "MX-1 compact" folding-arm awning for the two other patios, which together measure more than 42 square metres. An awning with a stylishly shaped cover cassette, with LED lighting, infrared heaters and a shadeplus option. As with the vertical awnings of the "markilux markant system", the screen fabric in the shadeplus provides protection against a low-lying sun. But it still provides a view of the surrounding landscape.

All the awning frames are colour-coordinated with the material of the new building in light grey/anthracite tones. "The light green shade of the awning covers, on the other hand, sets a fresh tone and blends in well with the surrounding countryside which particularly pleases the owners," explains Christiane Berning. They felt they had received competent advice from the specialist dealer on site and were very satisfied with their choice of awning, which emphasises the modern style of the house. The garden now offers a number of cosy seating areas. Whether for shared meals with the family, convivial barbecues or a time out by the pool.
