The hospital canteen patio at the "Tauernklinik Zell am See" invites staff to take a relaxing break under the new awning system "pergola classic" from markilux

In 2022, the "Tauernklinik Zell am See" in Pinzgau, Austria, had part of the patio adjacent to its staff canteen covered with a weatherproof awning system. They opted for the "pergola classic" from markilux which boasts a waterproof cover. Since then, the patio has served as a relaxing retreat for the employees.

After undergoing several years of complex renovation, the "Tauernklinik Zell am See" is now an ultra-modern hospital. The most recent change was initiated just two years ago, when the inner courtyard of the building complex was redesigned. Last summer, part of the patio area adjacent to the clinic canteen was equipped with a large multi-field "pergola classic" awning system from markilux.

"It was important for the client to have a modern-looking shading system of high product quality. It was to pick up on the architectural style of the building and add a charming touch of colour. Thanks to the fresh green shade of the awning cover, the space below now appears bright and friendly, with a pleasantly relaxing atmosphere," explains Jan Kattenbeck, head of "markilux project". And that was exactly their objective. The clinic management had wanted to make the 120 square metre outdoor area more attractive for the nursing staff and doctors. "The canteen area where the employees take their breaks was to be extended to the outside, provide a refreshing retreat and, if possible, able to be used regardless of the weather," adds Mr Kattenbeck.

System installed in just two days
The manufacturer's pergola system fulfils this requirement perfectly. Due to the supporting posts and the "tracfix technology", in which the cover is held firmly in the guide tracks, the awning is very stable in windy conditions. "Depending on the size of the system, one or more of the front posts can also be lowered. This means that rainwater can run off the cover more easily," says Mr Kattenbeck. In addition, the highly water-repellent "sunvas perla FR" awning cover was chosen for the facility in Zell am See as protection against light rain - a special fabric that is also highly flame-retardant. For public buildings like the "Tauernklinik" hospital, certain safety regulations have to be observed. The awning expert is now delighted with another successful reference project and pleased that cooperation between the specialist dealer responsible on site and all other fitters and workmen went so well. "Everything was timed so that it would be possible to install the large pergola in just two days. You can't ask for more than that. And naturally the customer is just as pleased about that as we are," stresses Mr Kattenbeck.
