UltraFlex Demos Induction Soldering of Coaxial Connectors to Copper Plate

UltraFlex Power Technologies has recently demonstrated a cost-, time-, and energy-efficient induction soldering process for coaxial connectors to copper, delivering high-quality results without damaging the dielectric component inside the connectors or separating the 18-micrometer thick copper plate from the substrate.

At the request of a manufacturing industry customer, UltraFlex engineers set up a demo application using brass coaxial connectors and copper discs with a diameter of 10 to 30 cm. They recommended the UltraFlex UltraHeat-S series of compact and efficient 2kW induction heaters, utilizing the latest switching power supply technology and adaptive digital phase control to operate in a wide frequency range.

With an 800 W power and a heating cycle that continued while the alloy was still flowing, the induction soldering process was completed within 9-10 seconds, delivering improved energy efficiency and a high-quality soldering result. Tests confirmed that all Teflon insulation in the connectors remained intact during heating, ensuring the integrity of the product.

UltraFlex engineers also found that the process could be further optimized by using a custom-designed induction coil and solder paste in place of the alloy. By using digitally controlled UltraFlex induction heaters in the soldering process, the customer could achieve full process automation and consistent, high-quality results, independent of operator skills.

This green process is also safe, with no open flame, smoke, or noxious emissions, providing a safe working environment. UltraFlex Power Technologies is a leading manufacturer of innovative, digitally controlled induction heaters and frequently sets up demo applications for various customer heating scenarios. Contact us today to learn more about how we can help you optimize your soldering process.
