Press release from: VIERLING Communications GmbH

Ecotel GSM3-3x cuts telephone expenses when calling GSM networks while allowing mobile usage of telephones, fax machines and PCs

Ebermannstadt, Germany – September 17, 2007. Vierling will present its new Ecotel GSM3-3x analog GSM gateway for the first time ever during the Vierling Autumn Fair from September 19-20, 2007. Once the gateway is connected to an analog port of a PBX, the gateway can reduce the cost of making calls with GSM networks. This opens up new applications for mobile users who need access to Internet, e-mail and fax services where no landline is available, e.g. in emergency vehicles and offices on construction sites. With its software-based architecture, Ecotel GSM3-3x can be extended in a flexible manner while remaining cost-effective to manufacture.

Significantly decrease telephone costs
Once connected to a PBX via an analog port, Ecotel GSM3-3x can begin turning costly calls between the fixed network and mobile radio networks into more cost-effective mobile-to-mobile calls. Especially in Eastern Europe, Asia and South America, Ecotel GSM3-3x can be looped into the analog trunk lines commonly used in those regions. When a caller dials a mobile radio number, the call will always be routed via the gateway. The gateway contains a mobile radio module and a SIM card supplied by the user. This allows Ecotel GSM3-3x to decrease telephone costs by up to 70 per cent. The gateway usually pays for itself in less than six months.

Mobile usage of analog terminal equipment
Ecotel GSM3-3x can be used to connect analog telephones, fax machines, multifunctional devices, PCs and entire PBXs to the global telecommunications infrastructure without fixed network access. In locations that do not have access to the fixed network such as office containers, emergency vehicles and weekend homes, the gateway allows connection via GSM mobile radio and the general packet radio service (GPRS). When accessing the Internet, data rates of up to 85.6 kbit/s are possible for downloads and 42.8 kbit/s for uploads. A version of the gateway with a connection for an analog fax machine should be available by the end of the year.

A flexible, expandable gateway for the global market
“We have a positive outlook for selling the Ecotel GSM3-3x particularly in Eastern Europe, Asia and South America. There also exists potential in Germany and Western Europe where the gateway will be used primarily on analog extensions of PBXs or for mobile network access”, said Anton Glöckner, Director Product Line Mobile Communication at Vierling. “Ecotel GSM3-3x is based on an expandable platform representing an entirely new development which holds the potential to implement future gateway extensions in the areas of ISDN and voice over IP (VoIP). The gateway’s software-based architecture allows maximum flexibility in conjunction with cost-effective manufacture.”

The most powerful solution on the market
“Ecotel GSM3-3x offers the most comprehensive set of features currently available among analog GSM gateways”, added Glöckner. “Other factors differentiating the gateway from its competitors include optimized voice quality and reliability.” Notable gateway features include least cost routing (loop-through), automatic routing and voice announcements for incoming calls, transfer of incoming telephone numbers to extensions (CLIP function) and callback by the gateway. Ecotel GSM3-3x is connected via either the FXO line interface or the FXS phone interface to the trunk port or an extension of the PBX, respectively.
