Maybe the world's most expensive doctor, Dr. Marius Lazar, is now accepting patients via telemedicine

He was never a man who wanted to be in the limelight, but physician Dr. Marius Lazar is known in wealthy and influential circles as "The Maybach of Medicine." All the more surprising, then, that he is now receiving private patients from around the world via telemedicine. The reason: his wife's charity (Luzia Healthcare Society) which he privately funds from his net income and the fact that he, after his second wedding, largely retired from the medical empire he had built".

Dr. Lazar's journey began as a young "bush doctor" in southern Africa, where he learned firsthand the challenges of providing healthcare in remote and poor regions of the world. He later became involved in telemedicine and established an international network practice for rare disease patients, connecting them with the appropriate specialists and resources to provide them with the best possible care.

While Dr. Lazar charges extreme fees for private consultations (how much will be disclosed later in this article), he also supports his wife's efforts to help those who cannot afford a specialist's opinion. Dr. Lazar pays the full tax rate and all of his wife's charity expenses without using those donations for tax-reduction purposes or anything like that. "I want my wife and her Luzia Healthcare Society to thrive so that more people who are not doing so well can have a chance to get a specialist opinion. I'm no Robin Hood, but I'm certainly a compassionate conservative".

Dr. Lazar says cutting-edge medicine in an exclusive private setting was the result of decades of effort to become a good doctor and to be very flexible, including being willing to help on short notice. "Good doctors don't just fall out of the sky, they are the result of years of experience and dedication to their profession. Therefore, it would be illogical not to charge high fees for very demanding standards," Lazar emphasizes.

Dr. Lazar's passion for his work and commitment to his patients are truly inspiring. He believes that everyone should have access to good, affordable healthcare, but also that cutting-edge medicine in an exclusive private setting must reflect the experience and expertise that make a good doctor. "It's like being on an airplane," Dr. Lazar explains, "all passengers have the right to be flown safely from point A to point B. For a place in the back cabin you won't pay much, that's a no frills zone, safe but a bit overcrowded. In the front cabin, however, you get caviar and champagne in a suite seat because you pay twelve times more than in the back. That's fair, I believe. So if my patients want my expertise in person around the clock and are not happy with a secretary organizing appointments or don't accept treatment by employed doctors, they have to pay a lot for talking to me in person. I consider this as perfectly normal," Dr. Lazar explains.

So how expensive is it to get advice from the doctors of the rich and influential? "Well, I won't answer an email, let alone a phone call, for less than US$ 2,000. Now you imagine the rest", Lazar smiles. Purely informational emails via the contact form on his website, however, are not charged. So everybody is allowed to contact him using this route.

"I like the idea of opening up a little more to the public with my freelance work, telemedicine-wise, directly, without any complex administration. I have managed such large entities for long enough. Now it's time to be there for those who want a welcoming, experienced and flexible doctor who focuses on their needs, wherever they reside", Lazar explains.
