Luzia Healthcare n.e.V. takes over supervisory board of the Lazar Medical Consortium Group
The candidates of Luzia Healthcare n.e.V. have won the elections to the Supervisory Board of the internationally active Lazar Medical Consortium Group (LCG), based in Athens. The Greek branch of Luzia Healthcare now has a majority of votes on this honorary body, which plays a key role in determining the future direction of the Lazar Medical Consortium Group. With a mission to promote universal and affordable healthcare, Luzia Healthcare, working alongside as three sister associations (Germany, Greece, U.S.A.), advocates for access to healthcare for all people in all countries around the world as well as for people with rare conditions, so-called "orphan diseases". A medical advisory board supports the Luzia Healthcare in this effort, as volunteers, of course.
The Lazar Medical Consortium Group (LCG), whose supervisory board is now controlled by the association, is a union of freelance doctors. LCG was founded to counter the increasing dominance of aggressive telemedicine companies from third world countries entering the global telemedicine market with often underpaid and questionably trained physicians. In contrast, all Lazar Medical Consortium Group physicians are experienced and, crucially, freelance physicians or owners of small private clinics who, on their own, would not be able to successfully withstand the pressures of unscrupulous large corporations.
In this respect, the electoral success of the Luzia Healthcare list in the supervisory board elections is not surprising. New Supervisory Board Chairman Costas Papadopoulos made it clear that under the watchful eye of Luzia Healthcare, LCG will become even more socially oriented, but without hindering the entrepreneurial freedom of Lazar Medical Consortium Group member physicians. "We want to combine high quality, free enterprise and social activism," said the Chairman of the German Luzia Healthcare n.e.V., Alexander Freudig. As an employee of a health insurance company, he sees no need for activism on the part of the association in his home country of Germany. Despite many deficits, healthcare systems in the three major German-speaking countries are in good shape, he says.
Alexander Freudig, Bill Smith and Costas Papadopoulos, the chairmen of Luzia Healthcare's three associations, are pleased with their coup of winning the majority of voting shares on the LCG supervisory board. It is now the first time they have dominated such a board, even though it is a busy honorary position. "I think it's great when a plan works out," Papadopoulos emphasized.
The General Director of the Lazar Medical Consortium Group, Dr. Carolina Diamandis, is looking forward to the teamwork ahead. "We should all be aware that healthcare must eventually become a human right. Commercial and non-profit actors should work hand in hand."
