New Ohio web site educates homeowners about on-line real estate resources

09-19-2007 02:10 PM CET | Industry, Real Estate & Construction

Press release from: IndependenceData.com

Foreclosures, the sub-prime “meltdown”, mortgage and appraisal fraud are hot topics in Ohio. Thousands of mortgages will be adjusting upward this year, and many homeowners will need to refinance to get an affordable fixed rate mortgage. IndependenceData.com is offering free seminars to schools, churches and civic groups throughout Ohio to educate homeowners to the available on-line resources used by real estate professionals.

Ohio Senate Bill 185 has restricted how a mortgage professional orders appraisals. SB 185 was intended to counteract mortgage fraud, but has cost many homeowners fees for appraisals that did not meet their “needed” value. Greg Mahan, co-founder of IndependenceData.com, said “most people don't know where to look, or what to look for to determine the value of their home. I just want our site to be that guide.”

As a value-added service, www.IndependenceData.com includes over 8,500 unique external links, which are checked daily, spread out on nearly 1,400 pages of Ohio information. Every town, city, county and zip code in Ohio has a unique page, linked to local on-line county resources, government, schools, newspapers, colleges, maps, demographics, weather and much more. Mahan says, “We scoured the Internet to find these Ohio links and make them easily accessible”

The free training seminars will be focused on local links to educate the homeowner with insider tricks and tips to using on-line resources. David Marihugh, co-founder of IndependenceData.com, says, “In over 15 years of appraising throughout the State of Ohio, I have been amazed how many homeowners have no idea what their home is worth or what to expect in an appraisal. Only a handful of homeowners have ever offered neighborhood sales information to me, and most that did, had sales agents as family members. No appraiser or real estate sales agent is going to know as much as someone who lives in a neighborhood. Knowing which homes sold as a result of a death/divorce, foreclosure or were inner-family is invaluable.”

Marti Wright, Licensed Loan Officer with Ameriway Mortgage Company in Toledo, Ohio says “IndependenceData.com is empowering and educating homeowners to understand the reason for their property values and how it relates to buying, selling or refinancing their home. Our home is the largest investment we will make in our lifetime, all homeowners need this property-protecting information, so we can continue to concentrate on what's most important...the management of our property, while improving the standard of living for our families.”

Contact Greg Mahan at IndependenceData.com (greg@independencedata.com) or at 419-497-2148 for additional information or scheduling free training seminars.
