SFTwin- Smart Factory through Digital Twins and Systematic Training in the Automotive Industry
The project "SFTwin - Smart Factory through digital twins", partially funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and coordinated by VDI Technologiezentrum GmbH, has been launched. The goal is to jointly implement a digital twin of a complete plant at Webasto Group together with i40 - the future skills company, Siemens, the University of Stuttgart and Symate GmbH. An end-to-end, cross-plant digitalization process is being developed for an automotive supplier that not only includes digital twins and a digital nameplate for machines and systems, but also incorporates personnel into the digitalized processes through a systematic approach to digital skills development. Topics such as data analytics, mixed reality technologies, virtualization, cloud technologies, robotics, artificial intelligence, digital twin, cybersecurity, predictive maintenance and machine learning, among others, play a significant role."Accompanying the ongoing transformation in the area of smart factory with digital twin, extensive and role-specific training and further education measures are required in the form of a systematic training concept, which must be developed and established in the company. Deficits in the area of new networked and digital technologies, OT security and also in the area of mindset and digital leadership must be eliminated in real time parallel to the developments in transformation processes. That's why we at i40 are happy that in the SFTwin project we are developing the complete competency and learning architecture for digital transformation from the very beginning and implementing all customized multimedia learning modules, micro learning nuggets and professional development programs that will strengthen the digital affinity of learners." Daniel Klett, Digital Learning Specialist and Project Manager, i40.de - the future skills company
"The focus of the SFTwin project is on implementing a smart factory, which means, among other things, building digital twins and dashboards for real-time processing of data. Webasto has been increasing the share of industrial robots, sensitive robots and software in the production environment for several years, and effective maintenance plays an increasingly important role. Especially in the area of plant/machine maintenance and IT/OT security, extensive and role-specific further training measures are required. But even beyond that, we need new skills among our employees and managers for the consistent implementation of a digital twin. This is precisely where the joint project comes in. We are therefore very much looking forward to solving this challenge together with i40 with this project funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate" explains Dr. Walter Huber, Director PMT, Webasto Roof and Components SE.
"An important part of all digitalization processes in the Smart Factory are the skilled workers who have developed a routine for the current process handling and thus ensure efficiency. Digital transformation - especially in the Smart Factory - is only effective if the skilled workers are equipped with the new skills required for this from the very beginning and are thus taken with us in the process. " Steffen Loskarn, Project Lead Digitalization Projects, Siemens AG
"Without digitalized processes, there is no way to achieve the flexibility and adaptability demanded by OEMs. As a result, in manufacturing companies, inside and outside the automotive industry, existing processes are often enriched with digitalized components, but these do not map the overall process. This is exactly where the SFTwin project comes in, closing these gaps with the digital twin of a complete smart factory and also planning and implementing the competence development that is indispensable for the success of digitalization." Martin Juhrisch, Managing Director Symate GmbH
"In the digital twin of the Smart Factory, a completely paperless store floor is also realized, which includes sustainability aspects in the form of holistic energy and resource management. The enormous amounts of data generated in this process must be stored and processed. Thus, a data lake is to be set up that will subsequently be compatible with production sites that are to be built in the future. It goes without saying that data competencies will then also have to be built up in parallel and therefore also be planned." Shan Fur, research associate in the "Virtual Methods in Production Engineering" group, ISW University of Stuttgart
We are looking forward to three exciting project years with our project partners Webasto Roofs and Components SE, Siemens AG, Symate GmbH, University of Stuttgart and VDI Technologiezentrum GmbH.
