Yehu Instrumentalist

Yehu Instrumentalist

Yehu born on 2003, August 16 as Eyu Kassa is a computer programmer and multi-instrumentalist musician who grew up playing around with computers and musical instruments. On a glorious morning, he found an email from a record label asking him if he was down to sign with them and officially become the next superstar.

I found Yehu when he released his second EP "Restarting..." thanks to Spotify's algorithms he landed on my discovery page. The song that appeared was "Cymatic Therapy". It was a mellow-ish, LoFi, Sleepy Type instrumental. I went on to listen to his then-new EP and another EP he released a month or two before. 11:11, his debut project. I followed him on Spotify and the rest was history, to say the least. He released several singles one of which is "Forever." This all built up the hype for his next album "Letters!" He had released a self-titled mixtape before that. This man has talents and I followed him on his Instagram @y.e.h.u to keep up with what he was doing. That's when I saw a story posted on his page with an offer from UMG.

I couldn't help myself but messaged him to clarify what it was all about and this is the summary of my discovery on "The Yehu Project", "Yehu" and the "deal from Universal Music Group".

The Yehu Project was kind of a side hustle and hobby for then-high-school grad Eyu. It all started in January of 2022, He quotes that month as hell and a time of trial. When asked to clarify he said he was going through a time of depression, severe social anxiety, and synesthesia. WebMD defines Synesthesia as "when you hear music, but you see shapes. Or you hear a word or a name and instantly see a color" Wikipedia sites Musicians such as Kanye West, and Pharrell Williams as Synesthete. Is this a superpower, why does every musician have it?

He further clarified The Yehu Project as a cure or somewhat a moment to hide from reality. January 11, 11:11 AM he finished producing and putting together his debut project "11:11". He said it helped him with his condition of synesthesia since the colors he was seeing and the tastes he was tasting were physically manifesting. Fast forward a couple of months he released his full-length album Letters which in his own words is his best body of work with a few flaws here and there.

It all comes down to when he was preparing the final project DUALITY he received the email. He clarified that the one available on streaming platforms right now isn't the version record executives found. He also said he didn't know how and when the alternative project leaked from his hands. The alternative version had samples from Mulatu Astatke, Bee Gees, Marvin Gaye, Nat King Cole, and several other people. He also said he had rapped on a few of those songs, which might be the reason that draws A&R ears.

I asked him how it was going and his reply was that he doesn't want to sign to a record label as he never intends to be a musician or see a career in music. He said "I'm a programmer, I build stuff and I'm at peace when I'm coding. I don't want to ruin my hobby by making it a 9-5, because then I'll lose interest which will lead me to lose creativity. I don't want to be a musician!!!"

His argument is right! I have seen many musicians and artists struggling with something new to come up with. I'll conclude with everything is a choice and our chances depend on our choices.
