Sure Immigration’s Role in Providing Access to Home Care

As baby boomers reach their senior years, an increase in the demand for home care is expected (Canadian Healthcare Association, 2009). In particular, the group that needs home care services the most are older adults living with frailty (Better Home Care Canada, 2016).
Home care allows seniors to age in the comfort of their homes by providing services that would support their physical, mental and cognitive abilities. Home care services include personal care (bathing, grooming and dressing), medication management, companionship, food preparation, transportation, mobility assistance and light housekeeping. These are known to also help decrease the need for long-term care and improve health outcomes (Canadian Medical Association, 2016). Senior care from home becomes possible with the help of in-home caregivers. However, the recent issue of caregiver shortage limits access to home care services.

The Home Support Worker Pilot program of the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) offers families the option to hire foreign caregivers so their senior loved ones have the opportunity to age at home, with their family. It allows them to get the services of caregivers outside of Canada or temporary foreign workers who already work as caregivers in Canada. What makes it unique from the other caregiver immigration programs is the easier hiring process.

Sure Immigration, an immigration consultancy company in Burnaby, BC, assists private households by connecting them to in-home senior care agencies in Vancouver and Lower Mainland BC as a way to support the Home Support Worker Pilot of the IRCC and promote aging in place.

“We know that the Home Support Worker Pilot of Canadian immigration provides—and increases—seniors’ access to home care services as it also addresses the shortage of local caregivers. This is why we help families and in-home senior care agencies with the hiring process,” said Yehu Levy, Marketing Director for Sure Immigration.
