International R&D Management Conference brings together experts from research and industry

The renowned international R&D Management Conference 2014 offers representatives from science and industry a platform for exchanging views on the latest research results, successful example projects, and visionary ideas in the field of R&D Management. As this year’s host, Fraunhofer IAO is inviting participants to the Maritim Hotel in Stuttgart under the heading of “Management of Applied R&D: Connecting high value solutions with future markets”.

Connecting research and development with future markets is the topic of the international R&D Management Conference 2014, which Fraunhofer IAO will be hosting for the first time in Stuttgart from June 3 to 6. The conference will live up to its motto, Management of Applied R&D, by offering a unique mix of scientific presentations and stimuli from industry to an expected audience of around 200 international participants.

Fraunhofer’s mission is to put research into practice, and the conference will be giving delegates the opportunity to do just that on June 5, when industrial delegates, in addition to a participation to the overall conference, have the opportunityto participate only to the part of the keynote speeches, the Best Paper awards, discussions on selected topics, and a conference dinner in Stuttgart’s Alte Reithalle banqueting hall. Among the high-profile keynote speeches are presentations on R&D and innovation management from Siemens, Bosch and Festo. As one of the fathers of the MP3 codec, Dr. Bernhard Grill from the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS will tell the R&D success story behind this groundbreaking technology. With the aim of ensuring a close connection with industry throughout, the call for papers itself is structured into three broad categories – R&D Organization and Efficiency, Strategic R&D and Technology Management, and Innovative IT Systems in R&D – so as to underline the relevance of the submissions to industry. Special sessions on selected topics such as R&D Management in Emerging Economies or Sustainability and R&D Management will each be jointly led by a representative from the field of research and one from industry.

As this year’s host for the conference, which will be held in the Maritim Hotel conference center, Fraunhofer IAO is offering an appealing program of accompanying events. These will kick off with a reception at the institute’s Center for Virtual Engineering ZVE, which was opened last year. A guided tour of the labs housed in this architecturally pioneering building will give participants a chance to experience research and development “live”. The conference program also features a visit to the Mercedes-Benz Museum.

Submissions of abstracts for papers to be presented at the conference will be accepted until January 20, 2014. Please visit www.rnd2014.iao.fraunhofer.de for more information on the event partners and for details of the program, the speakers, and the call for papers.

Fraunhofer IAO:
The basis for all work undertaken at the Fraunhofer IAO is a deep conviction that business success in a globalised arena is contingent on an ability to profitably leverage new high-tech potentials. In order to optimally exploit these opportunities, companies must be capable of developing and implementing customer and employee-oriented technologies faster than their competitors. Work organisation concepts must be simultaneously innovative and anthropocentric. A systematic design, in other words, is the outcome of pooled management and technical expertise. This holistic perspective when it comes to project processing ensures that equal consideration is given to commercial success, employees' interests and social consequences.

Through its close cooperation with the Institute for Human Factors and Technology Management (IAT) of the University of Stuttgart, Fraunhofer IAO unites basic university research with applied science and business practice.
