Berkshire HorseWorks,Inc.To Offer First-Ever After-School Programs for Fall 2022
SAY HAY!: PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP FOR KIDS AND HORSES AND RANCH LIFE 101 USE INTERACTION WITH RESCUE THERAPY HERD TO EXPLORE LIFE SKILLS

#Richmond, MA, August 29th, 2022, Berkshire HorseWorks, Inc., a 501c 3 mission-driven #nonprofit, which offers Eagala Model #equineassistedactivities, #trailridelessons and life skills curriculum for the whole family, will be offering after-school programming to help children explore the foundations of photography by engaging their equine partners. In addition, the #RanchLife101 series, which was offered as a summer program and year-round for private bookings, is now available as an after-school offering. The news was announced today by Hayley Sumner, Founder and Executive Director of #BerkshireHorseWorks.

SAY HAY!: Photography for Kids and Horses, in collaboration with Kelly Damms Photography, exposes participants to the basics of the practice while inspiring creativity and self- expression through interaction with horses. Imagine capturing the light off a horse's mane, up close and personal, or playing with perspective as kids sit side by side with a four-legged subject. The program will take children through 12 challenges of photography and participants will receive a workbook and journal to track their work. They will be introduced to the foundations of digital photography ranging from composition, lighting, and portraits to perspective and "selfies". Participants, ages 9- 12, must bring his or her own digital camera or cell phone. Sessions will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 - 5:00pmkicking off September 12thand ending on October 31st.The cost of the eight-week program (16 sessions) is $680.00 and the class is limited to 12.

Ranch Life 101, co-facilitated by early education specialist Chris Ciepiela and Eagala advanced certified equine specialist Sumner, is an authentic ranch adventure that provides a platform in nature for life skill development as children engage in developmentally appropriate experiences. Through the powerful interaction with horses in both ground-based and mounted activities, participants will learn how to develop relationships with the herd of horses and donkeys which in turn will grow their own ability to apply new skills to experiences outside the ranch. In addition to the Eagala- based activities, children will have the opportunity to learn basic riding skills, burn some energy trail walking with their equine partners, practice teambuilding while engaging in ranch "chores", and use their imaginations and creativity during innovative nature- based arts and crafts. Practicing patience, growing friendships, building trust, developing confidence, and cultivating responsibility, mentor/mentee skills and respect will all be explored. Session one for ages 5-7 will take place on Tuesdays from 3:45-5:15pm beginning September 13thand running through October 4th.The fee for the four-week program is $260.00 and is limited to 10.Session two for ages 8- 13 will take place on Thursdays from 3:45-5:15pm, beginning September 15ththrough November 3rd.The cost of the eight-week program is $520.00 and is limited to 10 participants.

"We have been listening to families about their desire for more after-school options as they struggle with coverage for their kids. After extensive outreach, we decided to give them the chance to stay at the ranch and play and learn with our herd," said Sumner."Berkshire HorseWorks is a safe and positive environment, where kids can still be kids, but have the opportunities to learn exciting new skills that will contribute to making them more #confident, self-sufficient, and better able to cope with new situations."

Both programs will be held on a private seven- acre ranch with hiking trails, multiple outdoor paddocks, a vernal spring and sun patio, organic garden, walking meditation trails and quiet reading hamlets.
