Texas Deer Association Hosts Superior Deer Auction

SAN ANTONIO — Providing Texas deer breeders with superior quality whitetail deer, the Texas Deer Association (TDA) will host its Fourth Annual Superior Genetics Whitetail Deer Auction on August 24, 2007, at 2 p.m. during the annual TDA Convention & Trade Show at the Westin La Cantera Resort & Hotel in San Antonio.

The Superior Genetics Whitetail Deer Auction features some of the finest whitetail breeder deer in the industry and attracts hundreds of ranchers and wildlife managers striving to breed bigger, higher-quality whitetail deer.

“I am very excited about this year’s Superior Genetics Whitetail Deer Auction. We really have a lot of excellent quality whitetail deer consigned that represent some of the best whitetail deer genetics in the entire industry,” says Damon Thorpe, auction manager for the Texas Deer Association. “The auction lots include buck and doe fawns, yearling and mature does both open and bred and semen lots from some of the industry’s best bucks — like Waldvogel Whitetails’ Max, whose semen sold for $20,000 per straw in each of the last two TDA Superior Genetics Whitetail Deer Auctions (February 2007 and March 2007).”

For deer enthusiasts and bidders unable to attend the event, the Superior Genetics Whitetail Deer Auction will be broadcast live on the Internet which will enable buyers to participate and to purchase lots online. The webcast will be provided by www.TexasWhitetailDirectory.com, a new-for-2007 online service designed to bring together deer breeders throughout Texas and the country.

“The deer breeding industry in Texas is stronger than ever and I want encourage all deer enthusiasts — regardless of the size of their breeding operation — to take part in what is sure to be the biggest, best auction of the year,” adds Thorpe.

The TDA is the only non-profit organization solely committed to improving the quality of Texas deer herds through improved habitat practices, modern harvest strategies and use of superior deer to enhance the deer herds. As a part of its public education efforts, the TDA publishes a full-color bimonthly magazine, Tracks, which updates TDA members on current legislative news, deer genetics and game management issues.
