SGS Testing Laboratories Gain Accreditation for Nadcap Certification in Germany

Having been awarded Nadcap Merit Status for the Material Testing Laboratories (MTL) sector on October 1, 2012, SGS Dortmund has reached an extraordinary milestone. The SGS laboratory is currently the only independent testing facility in Germany offering Nadcap MTL Certification for metallography and hardness testing, allowing SGS to officially certify critical tests on components for the aerospace industry.

With this accreditation, SGS has become the qualified partner in Germany for Nadcap Approval Tests on metal components to include high-performance materials in engines, structural components and landing gear. In addition, as a DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 certified testing laboratory, SGS Dortmund has the ability to offer its aerospace industry clients numerous and diverse targeted management strategies ranging from the evaluation of systems, components and materials in terms of physiochemical characteristics to the research necessary for development or damage analysis.

The Nadcap program guarantees a worldwide recognized uniform standard of quality upon which the aerospace industry can rely during component construction and testing processes. To qualify as a service provider of Nadcap testing certification, the German SGS laboratory underwent an extensive audit conducted by the Performance Review Institute (PRI) to determine that all mandatory requirements were successfully met. SGS accredited testing complies with the following test codes:

• L Metallography (General)

• L1 Microindentation (Vickers)

• L2 Near Surface Examinations – Alloy Depletion

• L5 Near Surface Examinations – Microindentation (Vickers)

• L8 Alpha Case: Wrought Titanium

• L10 Near Surface Examinations – Carburization

• L11 Metallography (Other)

• LS Surface Conditions

• XL Metallography (Macro)

• M3 Vickers Hardness

“Achieving Nadcap accreditation is not easy: it is one of the ways in which the aerospace industry identifies those who excel at manufacturing quality products through superior special processes. Companies such as SGS go above and beyond in achieving Nadcap accreditation to obtain Merit Status and they should be justifiably proud of it.” Joe Pinto, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Performance Review Institute
