SenzaNet and the German Environment Certification „Blue Angel“

Press release from: E-Senza Technologies GmbH

SenzaNET, E-Senza Technologies’ energy monitoring wireless sensor network, displays potentials for saving energy. This builds the cornerstone to reach the Blue Angel, a German Certification for products and services that have environmentally friendly aspects.

Due to a steady increase of energy costs, Green-IT and energy efficiency are becoming more valuable in the whole IT-Industry.
Every year there is an increase in calculating capacity. Only during the last three years the amount of digital data has increased by a yearly basis of 60%. Furthermore, the volume of the virtual images that have to be administered experienced an increase of more than 40% per year. Also, cloud computing faced an increase of more than 30%. Nowadays, more than half of the energy costs within a data center can be traced back to the cooling system.

Most data center operators do not have an overview about the energy consumption of the whole center. However, the measurement of the total energy consumption savings can visualize and reduce the energy consumption.

The decision committee of the German eco-label Blue Angel has contracted an eco organization to develop award criteria for the ecological data center operation. The aim was to achieve the objectives of the national climate change.
To obtain the eco label the data center operator should not only possess a PUE 2 for Energy Usage Effectiveness (EUE) but also determine the current state of energy consumption, perform a monitoring of the temperatures and the IT-burden and deliver an annual energy efficiency report.

E-Senza Technologies provides complete solutions for the continuous monitoring of various parameters that can be taken by the wireless infrastructure within a few minutes running. The wireless sensors from E-Senza require minimal administrative effort and can coexist with existing wireless networks easily. The physical separation of wireless networks also ensures the security of the overall solutions.
The re-configuration and adding new nodes are as simple as placing of sensors, if the configuration of the data center changes. Readings are periodically collected and presented in a user-friendly graphical user interface. Using the software, critical thresholds are monitored and deviations from it automatically trigger an alarm.

The Blue Angel is the first and oldest environment-related label in the world for products and services. It was created in 1978 on the initiative of the Federal Minister of the Interior and by the decision of the Minister of Environment of the Federal Government and the federal states. Since then the label is a market instrument of environmental policy and indicates on a voluntary basis, the positive environmental features of offers.
