In Central Europe people spend on average 90% of their time indoors. This may be their own home, office, cinema, car or school.
In classrooms a healthier indoor climate for students and teachers is achieved best by ventilation of the rooms. Air circulation is quite important because humans exhale CO2 (10 to 200l/h) and emit significant amounts of moisture (30 to 300g/h at 20°). These anthropogenic factors essentially determine the indoor air quality - along with pollution from the environment, building materials or materials of interior design.
Learning is moreover exhausting; a good illumination of classrooms is therefore indispensable.

Outdoor and indoor air as well as light have a big impact on the health and on the ability to concentrate. For the well-being and success of learning students facility managers must ensure suitable ventilation and illumination in classrooms.

Together with an international facility manager, E-Senza Technologies has deployed an extremely challenging project that monitors the room quality in several school buildings in various locations in Ireland.

With help of up to 500 sensors and the SenzaNET wireless technology, the operators can now easily monitor remotely the temperature, humidity, light intensity, the power consumption and CO2 content in the various rooms.

The system features Ethernet and GPRS gateways to bundle and transmit the values of all sensors to the enterprise server in Dublin. The wireless gateways with extended range of up to 10mW provide moreover time synchronization, routing, scheduling services and temporary storage of the measured data.
The wireless monitoring software SenzaWMS helps to centralize the visualization, manage and evaluate the measured values using a user-friendly web interface. The software also monitors critical thresholds and deviations of the system and automatically triggers an alarm. This allows the building manager to react and intervene promptly.
SenzaNET system could be installed in matter of hours and is now easily integrated into existing systems. The building manager can now ensure optimal quality of the classrooms.
