FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Volunteers To Deliver Meals To Seniors Are At A Critical Low

Lombard, IL (August 24, 2021) DuPage Senior Citizens Council (DSCC) announced today that they have a shortage of volunteer drivers needed to deliver meals to homebound and isolated seniors in DuPage County, leaving many seniors at risk.

"We rely on the generosity and willingness of volunteers to deliver meals to homebound seniors", said Marylin Krolak, Executive Director of DuPage Senior Citizens Council. "When we don't have enough volunteers to deliver meals, seniors worry about their next meal."

Due to COVID-19, DSCC is delivering additional 5-pack frozen meals and shelf stable meals to homebound seniors, giving each senior a secure backup of food in case of emergencies. Volunteers pick up the pre-packed meals at DSCC's main office in Lombard and deliver them to seniors. Volunteers can usually complete the route in a little more than two hours.

Krolak added, "When there are enough volunteers, every senior who needs meals receives one. Right now, we do not have enough volunteers to deliver to all the seniors.”

DSCC has multiple volunteering opportunities serving homebound seniors in DuPage County including several delivery dates between August and October. Krolak adds, "We need volunteers right now but people can also sign up to volunteer for upcoming delivery dates.”

To help deliver meals right now, go to https://www.dupageseniorcouncil.org/volunteering/ and fill out a form. A volunteer coordinator will provide next steps.
