Save 5 year Old Pilani School Student Mudit Runthala Fighting Relapse Acute Myeloid Leukemia AML

Leukemia is cancer of the body's blood-forming tissues, including the bone marrow and the lymphatic system. Many types of leukemia exist. Some forms of leukemia are more common in children. Other forms of leukemia occur mostly in adults. Leukemia usually involves the white blood cells. Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells, characterized by the rapid growth of abnormal cells that build up in the bone marrow and blood and interfere with normal blood cell production.

AML is a type of blood cancer. Even though patients get the same treatment, some get cured whereas others relapse. The reason is that AML is a biologically heterogeneous cancer. Some patients of AML have chromosomal abnormalities in their leukemic cells whereas others have mutations in genes or in some cases there is a combination of both. These genetic changes harbored by the leukemic cells are critical in influencing response to treatment and disease outcome.

Mudit Runthala born 11 Aug 2016 (Aadhar Card No 9324 3765 8749) son of Hemant Kumar Runthala is a cheerful child presently studying at Jamuna Mishra Academy JMA Pilani in UKG class.He is grandson of well known social worker Sri Pushpender Runthala (Phone +91 9468700100) popularly known as Netaji at Pilani in Shekhawati Rajasthan.

Ironically Mudit was detected having the deadly blood cancer on the World Cancer Day 04 Feb 2020 and underwent treatment at Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, Jaipur. Students and teachers of JMA Pilani joined hands with the family of Mudit Runthala and raised funds for his treatment. But fate brought a relapse of AML in Mar – Apr 2021 and is presently undergoing treatment at Manipal Hospitals Jaipur. Since Mudit does not have a sibling, his father is the stem cell donor. Dr Satyendra Katewa of Manipal Hospitals has certified the treatment package for Mudit Runthala which works out to a whopping INR 35 Lacs. This amount is beyond the capability level of his family
