For the seven decade old school founded by the doyen of Indian industry Late Padma Vibhushan Shri G D Birla, present Principal Dr (Mrs) M Kasturi with pride says “The Finest Inheritance we give a Girl Child – Wings to Fly.”

For the last 53 years, the one constant in the 26 January Republic Day Parade at RajPath Delhi has been the NCC girls’ Pilani band from Birla Balika Vidyapeeth and they are indeed part of what has now become a tradition. Birla Balika Vidya Peeth - BBVP, Pilani established in July 1941 working on modern progressive lines is an English medium Residential Public School for girls. The excellent hostel and mess facilities at BBVP truly give the home away from home feeling. Apart from providing the facilities of modern education, the school is well known for retaining the best traditions of India’s rich heritage.

Besides the training of intellect, the school puts great emphasis on sound health of the students and imparts Physical Training, Yoga, Hockey, Horse-Riding, Lawn Tennis, Judo, Swimming, Classical Music and Dance etc to the enrolled students. The school children regularly participate in National Integration Camps as well as Trekking camps. The school maintains two troops of N.C.C. (Army wing) comprising of about 200 cadets.

Many students who have passed out from BBVP in the past have secured admissions in top ranking institutions in India today such as IIT, BITS Pilani, AIIMS Delhi, Government Law College – GLC Mumbai etc. Apart from the Mohan sisters Neeti (singing sensation who features in AR Rahman concerts), Shakti (winner of Dance India Dance Season 2 and star attraction in Dil Dosti Dance Channel [V]) and Mukti (dancer and a regular face in many commercials), the alumni of the school include many more who is who in various walks of life.

The School is well known for producing excellent results in the CBSE Board examinations for Class X and Class XII year after year. For the year 2012, 175 girls appeared and all passed in First Division. While 74 girls had opted for Maths Physics Chemistry group, 25 Girls had opted for Physics Chemistry Biology group. The Commerce group had 60 girls while the Humanities group had 16 girls.

Number of girls who scored above 90% at BBVP Pilani for 2012 is a whopping 31 while 108 students stood in the range 75 – 89.9%. The remaining 36 students were in the 60 – 74.9% range. Among those who secured above 90%, 18 were from Science stream while 12 were from Commerce stream and 1 from Humanities stream. The number of A1 and A2 grades obtained by 175 students stood at 502 resulting in an average of 2.87 per student. The total number of distinctions stood at 698 for the 175 students resulting in average of 3.98 per student. The School average mark for the year 2012 stood at 81.2%. The Science Stream average mark is 81.52% as against 82.50 % for the Commerce Stream and 79.51% for the Humanities Stream.

Pooja Natarajan from commerce stream was the overall topper of BBVP Pilani with 95.40% while Isha Goel topped the Science Stream with 95.20% and Runu Sharma topped the Humanities Stream with 93.4%. Others who scored above 90% include Minal Agarwal and Neha Dhayal with 94.6%; Rupan Modi, Shaffi Bansal and Vibhuti Mehta with (94.4%); Anushka Jain (94.2%); Surbhi Ajmera (93.4%); Vaishali Garg and Shubhangi Sikaria (93%); Shriya Dutta and Somya Karwasra (92.8%); Katyayani Jaiswal (92.6%); Ankita Daiya (92.2%); Shweta Maheshwari (91.8%); Disha Agarwal and Vandana Saini (91.6%); Priyanka Agarwal and Savi Agarwal (91.4%); Shreya Agarwal, Himanshi Jangir, Priyanka Balwan and Varshita Jain (91%); Aditi Mandrelia (90.8%); Ayushi Agrawal and Kriti Mantri (90.4%); Reena Lamba (90.2%); Shaifali Mittal and Tamanna Balwada (90%).

Topper Pooja Natarajan who had been a trumpet player as well as band leader for the BBVP Pilani band says “Do not be crazy about tuitions. Just follow your teachers and marks will follow you”. Pooja adds that in the coming years she will achieve much more to add glory to her alma mater BBVP Pilani which is undoubtedly one among the top ranking schools not only in India yesterday but also India today and India tomorrow.
