DAVIES TURNER BAGS BRACE OF INDUSTRY AWARDS

05-29-2007 06:03 PM CET | Logistics & Transport

Press release from: Davies Turner

/ PR Agency: Impress Communications Ltd
Davies Turner has again been voted ‘Freight Forwarder of the Year’ in a nationwide shipping industry poll conducted by Informa, the leading international provider of specialist information and services for various business communities.

In winning the trophy, which was voted for by readers of Informa’s flagship export directory, Lloyd’s Loading List, Davies Turner saw off competition from two multinationals that had also made the final shortlist.

Comments Joint Managing Director, Philip Stephenson: “Working closely with our network of overseas partners, we have the resources to match these heavyweights in terms of investment and training, but we are also still of a size to respond more quickly to our customers’ shipping enquiries and service requirements.

“The Informa awards are the only democratic freight industry awards in the UK, broadly based on votes from UK shippers - which makes winning this recognition all the more worthwhile.”

It is the fifth time that Davies Turner has taken the top forwarding prize in the 14-year history of the awards. Furthermore, GE Plastics has named Davies Turner’s Sydney Watson as its Logistics Person Of The Year.

GE Plastics values its relationship with suppliers as having an important role in the quality of service provided towards its own customers. The company evaluates its logistics providers on an annual basis and several criteria are taken into account to find the best performer, including cost control and reduction of transit times.

Mr Watson, who is Export Manager at Davies Turner’s Cumbernauld branch, has been working closely with GE Plastics in Scotland from the time the company commenced business with Davies Turner.

In applauding Mr Watson’s achievement, Mr Stephenson comments: “Syd Watson has shown total commitment to the European business that GE Plastic entrusts to Davies Turner and has been very proactive in fulfilling its service requirements.

“This brace of awards comes as welcome recognition of the company’s continuing investment, not only in our nationwide network of Regional Distribution Centres such as Cumbernauld, but also in staff training and integrated systems development together with our partners worldwide. “

Davies Turner was founded in 1870, to ship the belonings of Victorian adventurers to the farthest corners of the globe. Even today, we remain a family owned and managed group, offering an award winning and diverse portfolio of international surface and air transport services worldwide through our three distinct operating businesses
