Press release from: TeleMental Health Institute Inc.

San Diego, California – February 20, 2012 – Motivated by the need for noninvasive cerebral monitoring and computerized cognitive assessment, James O’Halloran, Ph.D., and his research team from the University of California, Irvine formed NeuroComp Systems, Inc. The group develops computerized cognitive and behavioral evaluation systems for various central nervous system diseases including Alzheimer’s disease, schizophrenia, traumatic brain injury, and central nervous drug effects. Dr. O’Halloran serves as the president of NeuroComp Systems, Inc. and is highly respected for his contributions to the research and development of telehealth-based psychological assessment.

Dr. James O’Halloran has been developing telehealth technology to improve cognitive assessment for more than a decade. This month he is joining with the TeleMental Health Institute to share his expertise and research related to telehealth-based cognitive assessment in a free, 1-hour webinar titled “Psychological Assessment: Telemental Health Strategies Using Video.”

As the director of the TeleMental Health Institute, Dr. Marlene Maheu has long recognized the need for a telehealth approach to psychological testing. She trains professionals about startup, legal and ethical issues related to using technology to provide healthcare services. Dr. Maheu said, “Assessment has been quite limited in telepractice, largely because specialized technology to conduct a thorough psychological assessment battery has not evolved in pace with videoconferencing.” Dr. O’Halloran will discuss remote psychological assessment and explain how evidence-based telehealth assessments can be feasible. “Dr. O’Halloran has conquered one of the most challenging aspects of telemental health, successfully conducting not only assessment from a distance, but neuropsychological assessment.”

The TeleMental Health Institute’s webinar, Psychological Assessment: Telemental Health Strategies Using Video, will explore telehealth alternatives to cognitive assessment. Dr. O’Halloran will define cognitive function assessments; explain the value of cognitive assessments for treating various diseases; provide a brief history of telehealth deliver; address technological issues; and discuss the value and cost savings of providing remote assessments.

The webinar is free to the public and will be broadcast by telephone and webinar on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 2 PM Eastern/11 AM Pacific. TMH Institute will also offer 1-CE credit and a recording of the event to professionals for a $27 dollar fee. See: http://www.telementalhealth.com/webinars
