Wordvice Editing Service Opens First U.S. Representative Office
Wordvice Editing Service announced the opening of their first U.S. representative office in Des Moines, Iowa, this month. Des Moines was recently named “one of the best places in America to do business” by Forbes Magazine. The international editing and proofreading company, headquartered in South Korea, currently has outreach offices in the United Kingdom, Japan, China, and Taiwan. (To visit Wordvice’s website, click here: https://wordvice.com)“Our opening of this representative office marks a significant turning point in the expansion of our global outreach,” said Wordvice founder and CEO John Lee. “Because we are committed to serving clients from around the world, having an office in the United States enhances our physical presence and improves our response time to customers who contact us about our services or who have questions about their orders.”
Lee said that the company eventually plans to open offices in Europe, Southeast Asia, and South America. When asked why Des Moines was chosen as the U.S. location, Lee said that the relatively low cost of operations, coupled with the geographic location (Iowa is near the geographic center of the United States), made the mid-sized Iowa city an especially attractive place to set up operations.
“Iowa is known for its rich history of education,” Lee said. “There are many universities and research hospitals we hope to partner with, and the opportunities look especially bright here.” Iowa does have many universities relative to its population size, with the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, and Drake University just a short distance away.
Wordvice, which was founded in 2013, is one of only a handful of online editing companies that have physical operations in multiple countries. About 75% of Wordvice’s clients are researchers, professors, and academics hoping to publish in academic journals. Another 20% are students applying to colleges and graduate schools. Their service is also used by a variety of businesses and government entities.
Online language editing companies are an increasingly important part of the academic research and publications industry. Experts estimate that around 60% of research authors use an online editing and proofreading service before submitting their studies to scientific journals. This figure is only expected to increase in the coming years as more non-native English-speaking researchers publish work in English publications. Many publishers are also moving to an open-access model, meaning that lesser-known journals could soon be seen by a lot more researchers and readers of journals. Although Wordvice contracts with hundreds of freelance editors located around the world, Lee sees clear benefits to establishing a physical presence as well.
“Opening a rep office in the U.S. presents an opportunity to capture an emerging market of graduate students and researchers from American universities and research institutes,” Lee explained. “Ultimately, we hope our Iowa office will serve as a base from which to manage sales and form personal relationships. Creating partnerships with institutions is crucial for the long-term success of an editing company.” Lee says that this new office will also make it easier for its U.S. representatives to participate in academic conferences around the country.
Wordvice has seen a 500% increase in revenue over the past three years. Lee says that this is due in part to the company’s expanding online footprint (they were rated “best essay editing company” by Wired.com last October), but also to the contracts it has formed with universities and medical centers, especially in East Asia.
When asked about the role of editing companies in the future, Lee said he was optimistic. “Getting your work revised online makes the entire process easier,” Lee said. “It benefits both individual authors and the journal publication industry at large. Our services are available to anyone living anywhere in the world. Our service makes it a lot easier for researchers to publish their scientific work and present it to the public.”

Lee Savages Fury of Exponential Energy
Drips, splatters, riptides, chain reactions and other energetic kinds of visual matter charge the works of artist Lee Savage, giving her mixed media on paper creations a sense of barely contained motion. ‘My work revolves around freedom to create,’ says Savage, an artist whose half-organic, half-geometric shapes give form to what she describes as ‘the fury of exponential energy.’ Layering, texture and relentless experimentation with a wide variety of media…
Jim Lee - easy is hard
Everyday life objects that are familiar to the viewer compose Jim Lee’s sculptures, paintings and installations. As they give off the aura of “the found”, they inspire connotations linked to Arte Povera. Their basic structure is preserved, but is getting recomposed in a certain manner. Those workings could be reduced to fundamental terms as Colour, Form, Line and Shape but this statement would not cope with the sublime play of…
