Stockton East Water District choose Perle for Fiber to Ethernet upgrade

Converters for their network expansion. When SEWD needed to add redundancy to the network to improve reliability, the distances were just to long for traditional CAT5 cable. Perle Media Converters for CAT5 to multimode fiber provided the Ethernet distance, and network security, needed.

Located on an eight building campus spread out over 200 acres, the SEWD network consisted of three independent systems connected over CAT5 Ethernet cabling. With increasing demands for high-speed services and enhanced functionality, this network design was no longer sufficient. It became the intention of SEWD Network Administrator John McGinnis to re-build the system using fiber optic communications capable of 1GB data rates.

In the first step of the process SEWD decided to use Fiber Media Converters to connect remote servers, over 2000 feet of fiber-optic cables, to a 1000Base-TX Switch in the main server room. This solution ensured a seamless long distance fiber to Ethernet connection without any loss of processing power or operating speeds. The arrangement also allowed SEWD to utilize existing campus wiring and provide catastrophic protection against data loss in-case of fire or flood.

Already familiar with Perle from a previous project , John chose Perle’s Stand-alone Media Converters to bridge the gap between his copper and fiber infrastructures.
