The new PROKIT Safety System EP 110

The new PROKIT Safety System EP 110

May 18, 2011 | The KACO new energy GmbH in Neckarsulm, producer of photovoltaic inverters, is currently extending its manufacturing capacities. For the construction of the reinforced concrete shell, Brackenheim-based building contractor Amos GmbH is using the new, rapidly assembled PROKIT safety system from PERI for temporary edge protection. Due to the very low number of components, PROKIT EP 110 can be installed extremely quickly.

The new building includes a two-storey production hall, high-bay warehouse and an adjoining four-storey office block with technical and social facilities. Construction time follows a very tight schedule: in only eleven weeks, 7,000 m³ in-situ concrete was to be installed. As a result, fast construction progress was obligatory for the building contractor. The construction site team have achieved fast forming times for the slabs through the use of the SKYDECK aluminium panel slab formwork. In addition, work performance and effectiveness were increased due to reliable securing of all open building edges with the new PROKIT safety system.

PROKIT EP 110
The new safety system for temporary edge protection
PROKIT EP 110 is the 1.10 m high, quickly mounted protection for open slab edges on building shells. The system prevents site personnel or objects and materials from falling off edges, stairs and other areas up to inclination angles of 10 %. PROKIT EP 110 fully complies with the requirements of EN 13374 Class A, with corresponding proof regarding verification of the transfer of static and dynamic loads according to current standards as well as loads arising from wind.

During the development of the PROKIT EP 110, PERI placed great importance on simple and fast application; as a result, the number of required system parts was minimized: a 2.60 m long side mesh barrier, one post as well as assembly feet for slabs or walls facilitate flexible use without any planning effort – also for complicated building geometries. Through the overlapping variations of the mesh barrier, every edge length can be secured whilst a 1.30 m long side mesh barrier is also available for length compensations. The low number of system components not only simplifies the assembly process but also material requirements and logistics.

Depending on the site situation, mounting takes place on the slab, laterally on the slab or wall, or on the stair stringer. Thanks to the large post spacing of up to 2.40 m, materials requirements as well as assembly time have been minimized. The low weight of the standard mesh barrier of less than 20 kg, allows easy handling and a fatigue-free working. In addition, the assembly procedure is uncomplicated, fast and extremely safe: the posts are automatically secured when inserted into the slab or side feet, and the side mesh barrier can then be subsequently attached easily and quickly.

If no mounting parts are permitted in the slab and drilling is not allowed, the PROKIT Uniclamp PUC can be used. The clamp is attached by means of a quick jack nut to the slab or parapet – subsequently, the self-securing posts are inserted and supplemented by the protective barrier.

The powder coating of the side mesh barrier is in a distinctive yellow or red colour which not only guarantees a long service life of the PROKIT EP 110, but also makes the safety barriers clearly visible from a greater distance. In so doing, the colour itself has a very positive signal effect which effectively points out the danger area and facilitates checking to ensure a gap-free side protection.

Few accessories - working effectively
The application possibilities of PROKIT EP 110 are extended through a small number of accessories and the side mesh barrier can be used with virtually all formwork and scaffolding systems. PROKIT EP 110 can therefore also be used for the securing of open edges on formwork in accordance with DIN EN 12812. If required, the height of the side protection can easily be increased up to 1.75 m using a post extension and additional mesh barrier. Furthermore, the support brackets on the posts are provided with nail and screw holes so that guardrail boards can also be quickly and securely installed.

The EP 110 pallet supports the simple and safe logistics process: up to 40 side mesh barriers can be sorted in a vertical position in a pallet – an extremely space-saving method – and thus are easy to remove as well. Two pallets can be stacked one on top of the other, and the 1.20 m width of the pallet is tailored to match the customary truck loading width of 2.40 m.

Safety within the system
Health protection and safety of all persons employed on the construction site are integral parts of all PERI developments. The product portfolio features numerous system components which are designed to prevent falling accidents as well as increasing working efficiency of site personnel. This includes working platforms for the PERI formwork systems, assembly platforms, integrated access ladders along with the PERI UP scaffold system featuring the guardrail in advance.

Through the introduction of PROKIT, PERI has extended this range. The system components facilitate the installation of reliable protection for potentially dangerous open edges on the building shell with a minimum of assembly work. The compatibility with a very wide range of PERI systems considerably increases the number of uses.

PERI was founded in 1969 and is today the leading provider of formwork and scaffolding systems. Along with the headquarters in Weissenhorn, Germany, the company has 48 international subsidiaries and 100 stock yards around the world. The company has over 5500 employees. 2010 revenues was 825 million Euros.

June 16, 2014 - Visions of architects take shape with PERI Planned, formed, concreted – it is actually hard to believe that this procedure could ever function trouble-free in some cases of present-day abstract concrete structures. In its pursuit of uniqueness, architecture is becoming more and more ambitious. Parallel to this, the requirements of construction companies are likewise increasing. PERI, however, is keeping pace with this trend: with individual formwork solutions,
