VernissageTV Art TV: Current and Upcoming Programming May 2011

New collaborations, media partnerships, and further expansion of correspondents network. Next: Venice Biennale and Art Basel.



Basel / Switzerland, May 18, 2011 -- Due to new collaborations, media partnerships and the further expansion of the correspondents network, the current and upcoming programming is thematically and geographically the most diverse ever. 


Art Fairs



In April, one of the highlights was Art Cologne. As in previous years, VernissageTV not only covered the fair extensively, but also presented a video art program in the Open Space Reader's Lounge. All segments were produced on site at the VernissageTV Open Studio in the Open Space section of the fair and published on VernissageTV's distribution channels and the Art Cologne website.



For the first time, VernissageTV visited Art Amsterdam, the Netherlands' largest art fair for contemporary and Modern art. The 27th edition was the most international than ever. Apart from capturing impressions of the preview and opening, VernissageTV did several interviews with artists and galerists, such as Dutch artists Jetske Verhoeven and Tinkebell. From VernissageTV's correspondents in Poland, Mexico, Argentina

Thanks to the expansion of VernissageTV's correspondents network the art channel is able to provide its viewers with reports from a growing number of places.

Current videos from Poland include a report on the Polish artist Jan Głuszak (Dagarama. Back to the Future at Museum of Architecture in Wrocław) and coverage of the 14th Media Art Biennale WRO 2011, with interviews with Willy Sengewald (TheGreenEyl: Whispering Table), David Bowen (Tele-Present Water), and Stelarc (coming soon).
 
In Mexico City, VernissageTV attended the inaugural opening of the new Museo Soumaya, and produced reports on Cai Guo-Qiang at MUAC; Zona MACO; the opening of the exhibition Dialécticas del Paisaje Urbano at Museo Mural Diego Rivera; Doris Salcedo's show at MUAC; and the group exhibition Rastros at Ecoh Gallery with works by Bill Viola, Glenda Léon and others.

From Buenos Aires, VernissageTV has reports from FASE 3 Media Art Festival and Daniel Santoro's show at Galerie Palatina. These videos are available in VernissageTV's preview section and will hit the regular program soon.

Switzerland

In Switzerland VernissageTV covered the first part of Migros Museum's outdoor sculpture project, The Garden of Forking Paths. The participating artists are Liz Craft, Fabian Marti, Peter Regli, Thiago Rocha Pitta, and Pablo Bronstein, whose Performance of a Single Aria by Alessandro Scarlatti VernissageTV captured on the opening day.

Mauricio Kagel's Two-Man Orchestra is considered as one of the strangest pieces of contemporary music ever composed. After its premiere in 1973, it was now produced for the third time and performed in the Museum Tinguely in Basel by Wilhelm Bruck and Matthias Würsch. VernissageTV documented one of the rare presentations on April 23, 2011.

With Fondation Beyeler's project Henri Matisse: Acanthes. Conservation Project 2009 – 2012, visitors have the chance to get insight into the delicate art of conservation. VernissageTV had the chance to have a closer look and speak with the conservators of the Acanthes Conservation Project.

The Schaulager in Basel is already a very special institution and exhibition space. With the solo show “Francis Alÿs: Fabiola“, Schaulager has realized also an unusual project. Instead of presenting artist Francis Alÿs collection of images of Saint Fabiola in its own premises, Schaulager staged the exhibition in the Haus zum Kirschgarten, a museum of extravagant domestic lifestyles. A glimpse behind the scenes, and Francis Alÿs in conversation with curator Lynne Cooke is available on the Schaulager website.

VernissageTV Classics

Finally, VernissageTV added three more videos to its r3 program of re-mastered and re-edited classic VernissageTV videos from 2005 and 2006: Robert Gober: 1976-2007 at Schaulager Basel (2006); Christoph Büchel: Hole at Kunsthalle Basel (2005); and Robert Rauschenberg and Darryl Pottorf at Jamileh Weber (2006). A DVD with a first edition of VernissageTV Classics will be available soon.

Future coverage

Upcoming episodes on VernissageTV will cover the 54th International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia in Venice / Italy, and the 42nd edition of Art Basel. Starting with the Venice Biennale 2011, VernissageTV will provide embeddable video players / widgets that update automatically for specific topics (art fairs, biennials, genres and topics) for free.
