MSc Program „Environmental Technology and International Affairs“
A Joint Venture of the Vienna University of Technology and the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna

On 27th September 2007, a completely new postgraduate program will be offered by the Vienna University of Technology: “Environmental Technology and International Affairs”.
This unique program is based on a cooperation of the Continuing Education Center (TU Vienna) and the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna.

Over the last few years environmental challenges have taken on a new urgency on a local, regional and global scale. This puts increasing demands on decision-makers, who require a broad knowledge and understanding of the political, legal, economic and technical issues involved.

The cooperation of these two outstanding institutions enables this specialised education. It is a pioneering project in its combination of international issues and environmental technology.
The target group includes postgraduate of all disciplines, who are interested in broadening their knowledge in international affairs and the scientific and technical issues relating to the environment.

This full-time MSc Program is presented in modules and requires two academic years. One is at the Vienna University of Technology and the other at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna. Courses are generally taught in English. Students have the opportunity to attend optional courses as well as in English, German or French. The academic directors Prof. Dr. Hans Puxbaum (TU Vienna) and Prof. Dr. Gerhard Loibl, LL.B. (DA Vienna) were able to gain internationally renowned experts distinguished both for their profound interdisciplinary scientific knowledge and their extensive practical experience in the fields of environmental technology and international affairs.

The most important issues of local, regional and global environmental problems are taught interdisciplinary. The technical focus is put on general topics & seminars in environmental technology; surveillance & sustainable development; air, water & waste; and environment & technology. The international part of this education places emphasis on political science & international relation; international & European law; international economics; and contemporary history.

Admitted are individuals holding a Baccalaureate’s degree, a Magister’s degree or an internationally recognized first degree. Excellent English is an additional criteria for the admission. Non native speakers need to provide proof of their language skills by passing language tests. The following certificates will be accepted: First degree in English, CPE, IELTS-Test, and TOEFL-Test.

Students have to conclude the MSc program with a master thesis, which combines the two interdisciplinary segments (Environmental Technology and International Affairs).
The final degree "Master of Science in Environmental Technology and International Affairs" (MSc) is granted by the Vienna University of Technology in collaboration with the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna.
