Because guests like it cosy
Outdoor guest areas designed to be inviting and relaxing using awning systemsmarkilux - the awning professional - offers a specialised product line for shading large outdoor areas. It is of interest to the restaurant and hotel trades, amongst others. This is because there are many opportunities to create personalised scenarios thanks to the great variety of differing awning systems, which can be combined. Excellent and recent examples of this are the restaurant "Ron Gastrobar" in Amsterdam which seats 140, and the Hotel Illonn in Poznań, Poland.
In addition to the classic folding-arm awning, awning professional markilux's range of products also includes systems that can shade large areas. "Team project" is the name of the service that markilux offers in this instance. Project Manager Jan Kattenbeck and his colleagues are responsible for planning these awning systems, from the initial idea through the advice stage, to the 3D-visualisation and collaboration with the professionals on site who are in charge of installation. Restaurant and hotel operators love using this all-round service when they want to make outdoor seating even more attractive to their guests. Outdoor hospitality means added sales - provided that the guest area entices with an inviting atmosphere - whether in warm, mid-summer temperatures, in the cold or in rain.
"Ron Gastrobar": the owner is very excited about the increase in guest numbers
An example of this is the former 2-stars restaurant operated by Ron Blaauw in Amsterdam with 140 seats, which reopened in 2013 under the name "Ron Gastrobar" with a new approach from the point of view of the gastronomy on offer. We presided over this major project, from its conceptualisation right through to installation together with our Dutch specialist partner. This reference is a very good example of the versatile way in which our products can be combined.
The result is an awning ensemble consisting of several pergola systems based on a track guidance system supported by posts, complemented by folding-arm awnings on a frame system. 1The awning cover, printed to very good promotional effect, can be extended and retracted electrically. According to Mr Kattenbeck, the LED lighting as well as the matching radiant heaters ensure a cosy, warm feeling in the space underneath the awnings, especially during the evening hours. "The awning product range from markilux matches my idea of a big terrace that can be used all year round", says Ron Blaauw, Head Chef and owner of the restaurant. He believes the clear advantage for his business lies in offering his guests more comfort with the awnings, emphasizing that, "Even when the temperature drops, you can still eat and drink in a relaxing atmosphere. We are noticing that our guests now stay longer. That's because you can always find a wonderful spot to sit thanks to the awnings and radiant heaters." According to the former star restaurateur, covering his terrace with awnings was the right decision. He tells us that it has resulted in him acquiring many new guests.
The result of every awning system should be unique
Jan Kattenbeck realises that this is just one example of how awnings can make a difference in outdoor gastronomy. They also had a great experience with the new awning roof " markilux markant", which was installed in the hotel restaurant at Hotel Illonn in Poznań, Poland, as an 18 meter wide system with additional vertical blinds and lighting options. "Meanwhile we have so many projects on the go with various awning combinations", says Mr Kattenbeck. Every property is different and requires a new concept and other products. And that's exactly where markilux's expertise comes into play. A large product range that can be combined in a custom fashion, many years of specialised expertise and smooth internal work procedures between technology and distribution. Plus there is a good network of architects and highly qualified expert partners who supervise the structural side of things. Jan Kattenbeck and his team are already highly excited about all the additional projects. "It is a great success for us when the investment made by a restaurant or hotel in an awning system pays off, when guests feel comfortable under our products and that in turn increases the turnover. That is enough motivation to make sure we get the best out of every project!"
