What do swashbuckling pirates, fast talking detectives and dangerous dames have in common? They are all larger than life characters that are being used by Librarians around the world to engage students in audio book reading programs from publisher Galaxy Press in Hollywood California.

Hollywood, CA, February 15, 2011 (Straight Line PR) -- For years, teachers have wrestled with methods to make students want to read more. The reality is that many students struggle with comprehension issues and find reading to be purposeless and boring. Librarians have discovered that students develop an immense appreciation of reading and literature through audio books, which bring great stories to life.

"Audio books bring a sense of adventure to reading. They can capture the imagination for a younger audience. It is a chance to go forth and explore," said Julia Ree, Public Librarian from Riverside, California.

When students listen to the audio book and also read the story, they develop a much greater comprehension and appreciation for the tale that the author is telling. While reading programs traditionally promote collaboration between students, parents and teachers, to help students learn new about new topics, it's found that a great story can inspire a young reader, and open the doors to lifelong learning. In many schools, teachers and librarians are using audio books on CD to inspire students to love books.

A short video examining the role of audio books in reading programs can seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrqkEOopnpw

Since the re-release of these short pulp novels in 2008, they have caught the attention of major bookstores and magazines. The audio books on CD are available at http://www.GoldenAgeStories.com/audiobooks
