BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands – December 8, 2010 – When Zhongcai Profiles Co. Ltd., Zhejiang, China, needed an advanced materials solution to manufacture color-rich, high-performance window profiles for its building and construction customers, the company turned to SABIC Innovative Plastics. The solution was Geloy* XTW resin, a high-end acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylate (ASA) resin that has become the standard for excellence in co-extruded window profiles, gutters, siding and roofing for the building and construction industry. Another important reason why Zhongcai Profiles switched to Geloy XTW resin is sustainability. China’s goals to reduce carbon footprint, conserve energy and promote recycling are better served with co-extruded Geloy XTW/PVC resin profiles than with aluminum. Sun, Rain or Snow Are No Problem for Geloy XTW ASA Resin Technology

SABIC Innovative Plastics has developed proprietary processes and compositions for Geloy XTW ASA resin that significantly improve weathering performance while maintaining ductility and ease of processing. Compared to traditionally used ASAs, this high-performance material holds its true color as much as 10 times more effectively.

This technology can play an important part in creating and maintaining the beauty and value of residential property. It withstands ultraviolet light, moisture, extreme temperature, chemicals and environmental pollutants.

In addition, Geloy XTW ASA resins are available in a much wider range of colors than standard ASA grades. For example, SABIC Innovative Plastics has developed an elegant copper shade and is currently working on a new low-gloss material. The full palette includes earth tones such as green, brown and gray that are popular in Asia, and bright chromatic colors for a design statement.

Geloy XTW ASA resins can be co-extruded over PVC – helping to eliminate “chalking” – as well as acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS). It offers good flow to accommodate complex window profile designs, and delivers excellent impact resistance.

Geloy XTW ASA resins can also be used in other building and construction applications, such as doors, fences, wall panels, and pool and spa parts. Zhongcai Profiles is considering expanding its use of the resin into co-extruded PVC pipe.
